5. it's appears tacky to do this the next day after that speech of her husband's that said
Edited on Wed Dec-02-09 08:21 PM by Divine Discontent
essentially that hundreds of American forces are gonna be sent home in boxes because he's extending the bloodbath in Afghanistan for another 3 years. Unfortunately, it was planned for months, so what's she gonna do - she doesn't look too happy btw.

ps - I want my change back. The money I spent driving people to vote isn't turning out to be worth the return.

But, my, aren't the decorations AB-FAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"ps - I want my change back."

I just can't remember...

8. it's how I'm feeling now. I have no problems saying it - read my journal - I thought the world of
him. I deeply find his actions the past few months very disturbing, from the patriot act, state secrets excuses, war expansion, bs responses to civil rights complaints. The guy can give a fantastic speech, but I'm deeply regretting I voted for him, much like half this board (or more). Just go look at the greatest page.

11. Yah, OK. It's your life. Do with it whatever you want.
Me? I'm going to keep right on supporting the best Democrats I can find who can win whatever office is open. Obama's it right now. Instead of cursing him, I believe I'll continue trying to influence things as best I can.

But you do whatever you want.

13. If Obama is the best our Democratic Party has, we're toast. Liberal progressives are the heart
and soul of the party. "Kennedy-Democrats", basically. President Obama is prowar, as evidenced by his war is peace routine by shoving 30000 troops into a warzone for however many years and calling it an end to the war. But hey look, the White House decorations are up. ha

Best to you this holiday season, regardless.

14. Where were you last year?
Obama said at least 100 times on the campaign trail that he was going to send more troops to Afghanistan and finish the war there. All of this 'sudden' outrage over him doing what he said he was going to do is NONSENSE.

15. In Cali, cheering on his election in Sacramento. He didn't say this large of a number if I recall.
But, more importantly, he said it would have to be determined after he were to get into office, and that perhaps a truly peaceful man would override the ridiculous 9/11 references to a continued occupation that will be over a decade long if he even pulls them out.

At this point, I don't trust him to do anything he says, and I trust gov't even less now that we've got someone in that I voted for after two ridiculous losses. He's went right wing on several big issues these past few months, as if he's worried what the Repubs think.

He's gonna lose if even 1 out of 6 of us Democrats go to a third party candidate or don't vote.

18. nearly every repub I know thinks she's unqualified to be pres. she really shot her chances by
quitting as governor. But, yes, blame me for the president failing his base and potentially losing because of it (because warfare truly does change people's vote, probably because we're talking about mass death and all)

Merry Christmas!

31. This is his second escalation.
The first being even larger numbers. IIRC he indicated focusing the war on the southern border of Afghanistan. Rather difficult to do with those millions of Pakistani refuges huddled there now. No one told him where the border was?

32. You are brave for speaking the truth!
Obama is doing what he said he would do in the campaign! I personally think Obama is doing a good job considering the pile of shit he was handed! From the economy to foriegn policy everything was/is in a state of crisis...Many folks forget this fact!

Anyway, thanks! It is nice to see a voice of reason.

country when so many are dying and suffering from poverty brought on by money put into war and not into jobs...

9. This had to have been planned a long time ago
I'm sure she didn't have a choice about the timing.

I, for one, always enjoy the White House decorations and am thrilled that they are out of Pickles' grasp (though even I liked when her theme was the White House pets over the years).

Bad timing on the Christmas showcase.

On her staff should have figured this out.

27. at the very least, the tone of the presentation should have reflected the moment better

felt entirely out of character for the moment - and that is a speechwriting issue in many ways

34. I'm sure the holiday kickoff was planned before the speech
She also mentioned that there were thousands of volunteers who helped with this - this is their big day.

They should have timed the speech differently, if the abutment of the two events is your issue.

7. But look at it this way.
People enjoy the Christmas decorations. We love to put them up and view them. I still like to have my son drive me around the neighborhood and look at the lights. It sort of makes you feel good and remind you that most of America still WANTS TO CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS. No matter what the republicans try to start.

10. Good Lord....
Let's just CANCEL Christmas this year for everyone.
No mass, no toys for the kids, no decorations anywhere in the whole USA, no Christmas dinner, nothing period.
It's not the First Lady's fault that she has her official duties at the White House to do and can't plan them around what the POTUS does.

p.s. To whoever unrec'd my OP: I hope you have a ROTTEN Christmas this year!

16. You can probably assume that most of your country-mates are going to have a shitty Christmas anyhow,
but hey, if you wanna rub it in, go right ahead. ha

and as I said, this clearly was planned out weeks or months ago. Obv, not her fault, but oy vey, the timing.

23. Why thanks! I didn't unrec it, but I will be having a rotten Christmas
I'm unemployed, in debt, saddened by what is happening to my Nation beyond words, and a friend of mine was gunned down last week by police in front of his four kids...but hey, if it makes you feel better I'll unrec your thread so you know for sure that at least one of your wishes is coming true!

26. If Bush gave up golf...
This president can give up a few decoration, but I guess that's too much of a sacrifice to ask of our glorious leader, for the soldiers he has sent to their deaths and the women and children that will blown to bits in the coming months.

Merry Christmas.
