1. When is the simple and truthful answer to this going to be spoken aloud?

When Shrub and his war-mongering cronies and apologists start weeping and gnashing their teeth about all the terrible things that will happen in Iraq if our troops leave, this simple truth should be the answer: Those things will happenno matter when we leave. They will happen if we leave tomorrow, they will happen if we leave in 6 months and they will happen if we leave in 10 years. They were almost certain to happen once we deposed Saddam Hussein, and they became absolutely inevitable as a result of Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld's hideously incompetent management of the security situation in the aftermath of Saddam's removal from power. We can no longer prevent Iraq from descending into chaos-if it can be done, or if Iraq can manage to pull itself out of that morass of eternal civil strife, it will have to be done (sooner or later) by the Iraqi people, without our help. The only thing to be decided now is how many more Americans will have to die in a useless cause and how many trillions of US tax dollars will be dumped into a black hole before we face up to reality.
