1. What does he propose to fix the "system"?

Seems to me if he simply determines how someone w/o a passport got on an int'l flight and corrects how that exception to regs was made, he will have made what happened impossible. That's why they didn't know the person was on a terrorist watch list; he didn't have to produce a passport w/ his true identity. If he also makes sure that all airports w/ flights to the U.S. have "puffer" chemical sniffing machines to attach to the metal detectors we all pass through, no one will be able to board a plane w/ gunpowder or related substances on their person. No need to go into rights-degrading overkill.

If we also stop going around the world making resource wars, our safety will increase more than any security measure could increase it.

That speech is a primary reason(policy failures and media corruption aside)why Obama will be a one term President and why the Republicans will continue to govern in absentia no matter who wins Congress next year.

4. I listened to it

and read it. I didn't project anything. I got it from eight years of George Bush. These are the political axioms that Wall Street and Madison Avenue use to sell toothpaste and Presidents. They sold you Obama to market the appearance of change. Depending on how well he returns on investment, they may or may not sell you someone else. The President is and has been for some time a figure head, with little more real power than the Emperor of Japan. Wise up.

5. Here is what I hear in Obama's statement:

Various intelligence agencies or individuals in them did not communicate accurately with regard to the young man who pulled his act.

Therefore, communication procedures will change or heads will roll.

I think that is a solid response.

After living through four years of phony and exaggerated events in the Bush era, I will continue to ask questions about what really happened.

This seems authentic enough. But then there is the strange coincidence that we had already gotten ourselves involved militarily in Yemen before this happened. So, we shall see.
