2. Give Me A Break
Hillary never said it was wrong to meet with these leaders, just that it shouldn't be done "without precondition"

I think the Obama people are forgetting this clause. I think the Hillary camp is making too much of it.

You think Kennedy, Nixon and Reagan just called these other leaders and said, "hey, let's talk" or do you think there was a process, a protocol off stage that set up these meetings?

And when was the last time a US President met with Fidel Castro?

3. This is total crap. Presidents do not and should not meet with dictators without

a ladder process. Start with low level diplomats and work upwards. Do you honestly think that the President should just go ahead and meet with the leader of Hamas (the defacto leader of the palestinian territories) for instance? I think it might make sense to first have talks and get concessions before taking that extraordinary step which would legitimize their government.

None of the examples in that video were complete unilateral meetings that came without a ton of prior diplomatic work.

Obama is well aware of this, but he thinks he can score points against Clinton on this one. I'm surprised it has worked at all. I didn't think people were really that naive.

5. I think Obama's point is a change in venue
Why be so stoic.. You can adopt change... i.e., who knows if meeting with a leader won't create effective change.. You can't know if you won't try so why have that dinosaur policy approach right from the start?

6. Seems like it would be pretty tough for Obama to meet with all of those
leaders, all within the first year of his term in office. Especially when you consider that allies would expect and request meetings for themselves as well as offering him invitations. He probably should have taken a few more seconds to either think his answer through, or clearify his position. It definitely was a little naive.

7. I missed the part where Obama would meet "rogue" world leaders to party on...
The mere insinuation that Obama meant that he would just meet the Evil Ones at some sports bar and do shots is pathetic.

Clinton jumped the shark with her usual inclination to overstep. It is no wonder that her husband strayed from their marriage for some comfort.

8. I missed the part where anyone insinuated that Obama was going to party and do shots with any world
leaders. Pure hyperbole. Again, I think it would be tough to meet with all those leaders, as well as allies, all within his first year. Just the logistics of it would be difficult. Nevermind all the prior negotiations that would have to take place. It may sound nice, but the answer he gave lacked real substance.

9. Naive and inexperienced.
Edited on Mon Jul-30-07 02:09 PM by Chadius Maximus
I can name a few folks who were so
"savvy" and "experienced"
they thought they had a much better
way of running the country
than the way that's laid out in our Constitution.

(Maybe that was an inappropriate thing to say.
Forgive me, I'm new at this.)
