The sheriff's deputy in Bossier Parish, Louisiana, is handing out guns to his new Christian-based militia that is preparing to fight "homegrown terrorists in our midst." Rachel Maddow reports on "Operation Exodus" and invites Frank Schaeffer's comments.

Operation Exodus is inspired by the book of Exodus in the Bible. The sheriff proactively contacted people who he wanted to join his militia. He choose 200 people, 195 of which of white men.

Frank Schaefer, author of Crazy for God, warns about the Old Testament being used by the right wing fringe that is tied to militia movements, the religious right and/or loonies. He discusses the biblical ties to modern day ideology.

The sheriff is planning to use church facilities in the event of the kind of emergency that he imagines.
