If you watch the video you'll see that Franken PWNS the dumbass reporter ;)

Bravo Senator Franken, keep up the good work!

1. So what point is this idiot actually trying to make?
That there's something wrong with creating a healthy environment for children where they can get exercise?

Why do these people insist on being such clueless fools?

4. No, by describing it the way he originally did, he could
make it seem like the government is spending 8 Billion dollars on only jungle gyms. The Rethugs can then say that they are taking back the country from the wreckless spending by our government on $8 Billion dollars worth of jungle gyms.

For the record, I am actually in favor of the government spending $8 billion dollars in Jungle Gyms. I just think that it would be the coolest thing ever. :) But, hey, that's just me.

6. So let me see...
For the repugs:

8 billion for Jungle gyms = bad
60 billion to kill people = good

I get it. Makes sense.

I haven't read one yet that doesn't think Mattera isn't a idiot. Talk about backfiring. I hope he keeps it up; he'll drive voters to the Dems in droves. What a moron.

This is a reporter:

This is a media whore:

13. I'll take Amy Goodman over Jason Mattera anyday...
I'd love to see this idiot go up against Olbermann or Matthews. They'd clean his clock.

If you read the comments on the Franken video, I have yet to find one that doesn't roundly condemn this idiot.

5. you can change the title of the video after you find it. You have to put in
Edited on Tue Mar-30-10 05:07 AM by mucifer
the correct title at first. But, right before you click post message you can change the title. You can also change the title during the time period you have to edit the post.

BTW thanks for posting this. I love the idea of billions for programs like midnight basketball and "jungle gyms". I'm glad it's in the bill. They clearly edited out his answer. Asshole!

9. Thanks, BUT I didn't mean the title on my OP, I meant the title on the YouTube video ;)
Btw, you do not have to type in the original title -- the only place you have to do that here on DU is in the Late Breaking News section ;)

17. Paul Krugman descibed this as Beavis and Butthead politics last year.
Edited on Wed Mar-31-10 12:08 PM by Bleacher Creature

What should government do? A Jindal meditation

What is the appropriate role of government?

Traditionally, the division between conservatives and liberals has been over the role and size of the welfare state: liberals think that the government should play a large role in sanding off the market economy’s rough edges, conservatives believe that time and chance happen to us all, and that’s that.

But both sides, I thought, agreed that the government should provide public goods — goods that are nonrival (they benefit everyone) and nonexcludable (there’s no way to restrict the benefits to people who pay.) The classic examples are things like lighthouses and national defense, but there are many others. For example, knowing when a volcano is likely to erupt can save many lives; but there’s no private incentive to spend money on monitoring, since even people who didn’t contribute to maintaining the monitoring system can still benefit from the warning. So that’s the sort of activity that should be undertaken by government.

So what did Bobby Jindal choose to ridicule in this response to Obama last night? Volcano monitoring, of course.

And leaving aside the chutzpah of casting the failure of his own party’s governance as proof that government can’t work, does he really think that the response to natural disasters like Katrina is best undertaken by uncoordinated private action? Hey, why bother having an army? Let’s just rely on self-defense by armed citizens.

The intellectual incoherence is stunning. Basically, the political philosophy of the GOP right now seems to consist of snickering at stuff that they think sounds funny. The party of ideas has become the party of Beavis and Butthead.

(SNIP)

And BTW, doesn't encouraging kids to exercise reduce health care costs? And doesn't study after study show that breast feeding leads to long term health benefits? These guys are just plain sad.

20. Conservatives Are Good At Coming Up With Pithy Quotes That The Mainstream Media Loves
Conservatives know full well just how lazy our mainstream media is, so they provide them with pithy quotes like "$8 billion for Jungle Gyms", which gets into the mainstream media without any fact checking or investigation.

IOW, they make shit up and then give the media a ready-made headline.

22. WHAT A FRAUD!!
OK, did anybody happen to spot something here?

I believe the new law is hr3962 if I am not mistaken. This guy was trying to make it sound like that's the new law he is referring. The one HE is talking about, is hr3590. Look close at the clip. :57 into it and pause.

So the question isn't
"Does Al Franken even know what was in the health-care bill he voted for? "

The REAL question is, "Does Jason Mattera even know which health-care bill the Senate voted on?
