9. The level of misinformation
that these people are fed never ceases to amaze me. And it isn't only Fox News and AM radio, it is on NRP and even MSNBC.

Yes, they are stupid for never questioning this misinformation but they are bombarded with it 24/7.

39. But Malloy's bold commentary. . .
. . .better heard in the video clip down thread, is clearly explaining away any amazement you or anyone has about these people's stupidity:

R A C I S M.

But I'd like to add "deeper envious anti-intellectualism.

Think of it this way. . .scratch a teabagger racist, you'll find an uneducated non-achiever.

Mr. President Obama and Michele Obama, with their excellence in education and accomplishments, are too much for these LOSERS to bear.

Racism has thrived on trashing the black population as UNDER these uneducated, underachieving whites.

How can they stop their cognitive dissonance which has them truly believing they are BETTER than blacks when there's a black couple in the White House?

They get around the Obamas' intellectual superiority by faking outrage about taxes and claiming they're more LIKE TRUE PATRIOTS/FOUNDERS than the Obamas. . .ya know, he's not a real native born American spiel.

Yeah. . .good ole N A T I V I S M has resurfaced like so many times before in our history.

NATIVISM=SELF-HATE.

Cure would be making sure the nativists' kids are better educated to become the intellectuals they are so envious of in the persona of Barack and Michele Obama.

2. So, the take-home message is-
Tax exempt corporations and high-income earners shouldn't move their firms off-shore. They never should have gotten welfare-state treatment, and we should have raised the cap on income taxes like they were under Eisenhower's administration, to MUCH higher level

OH! THOSE GOOD OLE DAYS!

They know not what they protest! (read: international corporations, not giving one red cent to the workers who enabled their corporations in the first place!)

Looks like these morons got the wrong message before parading around with their signs and tea-bags.

Hey teak-a-thons... how bout showing up at City Bank, or Bechtel's place of business with your, "I want my country back" signs. Maybe THEN I'll join you... until then, load up your well-educated selves with some real information!

35. Do the teabaggers merit respect?
I can't think of a nice way to tell people they have been duped and are spouting nonsense. And I don't think it's worth the effort. We're not going to persuade teabaggers of the error of their ways by confronting them with facts that undermine their beliefs. They will simply dismiss or ignore what we offer and continue to seek and stockpile more anecdotes that confirm their belief system.

Maybe it's more constructive to publicly ridicule the teabaggers to discourage others from joining them.

Even ones who take the dishonest claims of teaparty organizers at face value. Especially when the radical left is offering no real alternative beyond ineffective, centrist Democratic politics.

7. How many Tea Partiers does it take to screw in a light bulb?
How many Tea Partiers does it take to screw in a light bulb?

According to Fox News:
It looked like there were about 1 million people.

According to the Census Bureau:
We don’t have a number because the Tea Partiers refused to be counted.

According to James Dobson:
There should be no screwing of any kind.

According to President Obama:
It doesn’t matter how many or who does it this is a change we can believe in.

According to Glen Beck:
It all makes sense. When you have something bad, it’s lefty loosey; when you want to make something good work, it’s tighty righty.
If you take the phrase Barack “Ultra Liberal” Obama you can see the hidden message
(B)arack “(U)ltra (L)iberal” O(B)ama

According to John Boehner:
Nancy Pelosi with her “San Francisco values” uses florescent bulbs, which reduces consumption and is the real reason for the financial meltdown.

According to Sean Hannity:
Nancy Pelosi with her “San Francisco values” uses florescent bulbs, which reduces consumption and is the real reason for the financial meltdown.

20. 6-5 and Pick 'Em
Nice video. See also the Boston Globe story/video on the recent "rally" on the Common. Staggering.

The trouble is, the teabaggers aren't alone. I don't know what's worse, the factually-challenged terminally racist or liberals drunk on fig leaves who think the sun shines out Obomber's crack. Malloy makes a nice aside about tax policy and the current administration's 'socialism'...which is what you get when the candidate gets truckloads of cash from Wall Street. Oh yeah, this is definitely a people's president.

24. Pro-actively ignorant
Cognitive dissonance theory describes the way in which we deal with holding 2 dissonant thoughts, and specifically, one of which is "new" - a challenge to the accepted cognition which we hold. The dissonance is so uncomfortable that it must be reconciled. It has been suggested that the drive to do so is as strong as our drive for food and water.

One way is to think critically and assess "new" information logically. Educators utilize this method in teaching. Another way is to deny the validity of the "new" cognition.

Many Tea Partiers employ this second method.

There is a third, however, which is even more harmful, and is also prevalent in this group: they just refuse to hear the "new" cognition; treat it as if it does not exist. (as my daughter teenage daughter used to do as she turned her head and held her hand out as a barrier against whatever I had to say: "Talk to the hand")

These people make this third method into a high art. They are pro actively ignorant. I don't remember who said it, but I used to have a quote written on a card in my wallet--it was so worn from my folding it and unfolding it that it finally crumbled--and I might no remember it correctly. The gist of it, however, is just this: there is no difficulty to which man (or was it "a man" - the Buz Aldrin conundrum which comes with old age) will not go to avoid the true labor of thinking.

James Garner once described his TV character, Maverick, as someone who would walk many blocks out of his way to avoid a confrontation. Tea Partiers will go miles (figuratively) out of their way to avoid being confronted with a new thought.

This must be why Sarah Palin is so enamored with everything "mavricky."

Edited on Sun Apr-18-10 08:46 PM by krkaufman
I'd love to see someone do a rip-off of the Jeff Foxworthy "you might be a Red-neck" routine... but aimed at Teabaggers.

e.g. "You might be a Teabagger if ..."
  • You've ever yelled, "Keep your government hands off my Medicare!"

  • You consider yourself a "pro-torture Libertarian."

  • You find yourself chanting "Reduce the Deficit!" and "Starve the Beast!" at the same rally.

(note: all of the above have been witnessed, either in the media or personally)

42. Regarding business taxes...
I remember watching a couple of economists talking not too long ago saying that American corporations actually do pay among the lowest rates in the world. They said that business gets incredibly high write offs before taxes are even figured but corporations never tell us that.
I agree with everything Malloy said plus the fact that the tea-psychos can't take there is a black man in the White House... they'd rather have the Bush crime family back. And little brother Jeb is still trying to screw up Florida politics from behind the scenes. Sheesh!
