:-( I missed him on the debates tonight, so I decided to share what I've learned about him! He challenges the other candidates to stand up and make a difference by fighting to end the war with the power they already have, like he did in Viet Nam!. The year was 1971 and Vietnam was not going well. Nixon's policies were crumbling and the draft was set to expire. Senator Gravel filibustered for five months, blocking renewal of the draft. Gravel used his filibuster to enter Pentagon papers into the public record. He fought against nuclear proliferation, lead in environmental legislation, pushed for stable foreign relations in Asia,and ended the draft. Mike Gravel is a man of courage and integrity.
