Political Signs Vulnerable to Theft, Vandalism

Roadside signs are a feature of just about any political campaign easy targets for vandalism and theft, but damaging them is against the law.

The Carson City dustup follows one last week in Reno. A passing motorist saw Senate candidate Ty Cobb get out of a car at Moana and Kietzke and begin kicking a sign for Sheila Leslie.

Cobb and Leslie served together in the Assembly and are politically poles apart, but are running for different Washoe County Sneate seats.

When asked about the incident Cobb admitted to destroying the sign saying he was just "goofing around." He left a message for Leslie apologizing and offering to pay for the signs replacement. Leslie said she accepted the apology, but was "disappointed" in Cobb's behavior.

I hadn't heard of him, so I looked him up. Apparently, the NV State Assemblyman was caught before--by a local reporter--claiming expense reimbursement for 40 more miles per day than he actually drove.

3. I'm from northern NV. That guy is a total asshat.

I'm not in his district, so I have no idea where he stands in the senate race, but he's been in the local version of GOP brand of just-say-no-ers in the state leg. From what I've heard, he's just a rude jerk period.

Leslie, on the other hand, is definitely on the progressive side. If I'm not mistaken, she was even interviewed a time (and maybe more) by Laura Flanders when she was on Air America.

There was a slight media kerfluffle when the event happened, but I haven't seen much on it since.

Assholery seems to run in that family. I did quite a bit of research on one of the Cobb family's Civil War era personalities, and he was involved in shenanigans not too unlike this very thing right here, just with more dead people.
