1. Curious that the occupants had a recorder going .....
like maybe they expected trouble?

I can't testify to every crossing, but my family has lived in Buffalo for 46 years and the only trouble I ever heard about was the extra search for drugs if you had long hair back in the earl 70's.

2. Yeah, thats strange
He kinda seemed to have an attitude. I know I don't fuck around at the border...at all. Obviously the guards are a tad bit over-reactive but, ya know, you do it to yourself.

4. Whenever I interact with any type of gun toting official I hit record on my iphone first.
I don't trust anyone with a badge and a gun.

3. Pulling away from an officer is assault?
I would think that laying your hands on someone is assault. Pulling away from them is defense.

6. As a Canadian, let me say this guy was being a total dick.
Edited on Tue May-25-10 05:52 PM by JBoy
I only listened to the first half, but his attitude to the Customs agents was obnoxious. He's lucky he didn't get his ass dragged out of the car.

I also think that he's full of shit when he says he works with law enforcement in Canada.

Any knowledgeable Canadian knows that while you are crossing the border into the US, you do not fuck around.

On Edit:

OK, listened to the 2nd half too, and I'm comfortable that he got what was coming to him.

15. Another 'nuck here. Agreed.
This guy might be an imposter pretending to be Canadian. His manners are terrible.

I do think arrest is too strong though. Really he was lucky he didn't get the shit beat out of him. This guy had not idea how to talk to those people. You have to relax and be friendly, and don't get mad if they inconvenience you because they could do a hell of a lot worse.

Idiot. Case closed.

But jail? I don't think so.

8. My first trip to Canada, we were waved across the border.
This was in 1966. It was coming back to the USA a couple of weeks later that we were pulled over told to step out of the car, open the trunk and all bags and they went through everything and this was with two kids in the back seat who had been asleep, but upon being awakened with the commotion, cried non-stop until it was over.

9. It's always more rigorous coming back home into Canada than going to the US for me.
I've crossed at land borders into the US probably over 100 times in my life. I think only once going into the US have they asked me to step out to have a look in my trunk, and I chalked that up to a random search. Otherwise, it's been a few quick questions and I'm on my way. I've been grilled a little more closely in airports, travelling to the US on business - they wanted to make sure I wasn't going down there to "work".

Coming back into Canada, they're most interested in how much stuff you're bringing back, because they want to collect the duty. I've had the car physically searched probably 3 or 4 times coming back.

16. Honestly, the Canadian border guys do seem to have an attitude

Every time I've crossed, I've gotten the feeling they don't like visitors.

10. What an embarrassment this country is. The guy was clearly
a normal person reacting to the outrageous, stupid, oppressive, disgusting paranoid bullying of the U.S.

Glad it was caught on tape. They falsely accused him of 'threatening' them?? You cannot even ask a question anymore? And they catch six terrorists a day? Lol, I think these guys need some deprogramming.

We used to joke about Canadians being a 'terrorist threat' ~ not a joke anymore in the paranoid minds of the robots we have 'guarding our freedoms'!

12. Okay...so the CDN had a little teeny bit of attitude...
but still...

This is why I don't cross the border more often...and I have a Nexus card. I always feel like a criminal, either going to the US or coming back.

20. a free citizen comes up against a police state
I guess that's the lesson. The Canadian has no experience being considered guilty until proven innocent. That's what sets him off.

21. That kid acted towards the guards like a total dufus.
Lots of border guards are assholes, there's no denying that. But this kid got all stupid and loud and obnoxious...even mocking the guard at one point...and deserved to get what he got, imo.

And how is this "leaked"?? Obviously the kid was recording it himself, no? Sounds like he's wearing a wire. So he was ITCHING for a confrontation!!
