1. I gotta hand it to you Thom -

- you're not afraid of a challenge. How do you maintain your composure when "discussing" issues with these crazies?

This guy was one of the worst - not a hint of logic or rational thought to the discussion. Just scary fear-buzz words like "commie" and "marxist" and "socialism" and "taxes" and name calling.

What a child.

Keep up the good work. You've got guts.

2. I got a chance to hear it on radio in my car while on break at work
And that jerkoff's civility lasted about 10 seconds, after realizing this wasn't to be an unrestrained plutocratic grandstanding opportunity. From then on he launched into a snide, smarmy little shit. Not so much as a counterpoint, but of a deliberately contrarian caricature of some mustache twirling RW dickhead. I'm sure he slammed the door shut on his way out.

3. Not much of a challenge there
If anything, Thom showed amazing patience with a total jackass and gave him ample time and opportunity to bury himself a nice deep hole.

Although he did let him shout down the actual debate and turn it into a ridiculous attempt to advocate for school vouchers and say that if you don't like them you're racist.

4. The first 15 seconds says it all.

Big K&R just for that. The rest is quite amusing.

EDIT: And btw, do people not realize that THE OIL IN THE GROUND BELONGS TO US? In most countries, the oil companies basically get to take a percentage of the profits but the rest continues to belong to the state regardless of who gets hired to pump it out of the ground. In the U.S., we hand them the whole goddamn cake for free and we clean up their messes afterward. That's straight up fascism.

5. I'd like to take about 20 minutes of batting practice on that Malzberg's face.

Cripe, he's Limbaugh on steroids.

I'd like to know this Malzberg's background. The way he talks so big about free markets and capitalism, I'd be willing to bet he married or inherited a ton of money, so he has no clue about what it's like to actually work for a living and live paycheck to paycheck. Or, I've seen people like him who have benefited from public programs.

People like Thom who speak against monopolistic capitalism know what they're talking about. We're at the point in this country where nothing is held accountable because big money corporations are running everything. They produce poison and crap and we're supposed to buy it because it's the only product on the market. If anyone tries to bring a competing product onto the market, the big players dominating the market use their money and power to politically or economically eliminate the competition.

Malzberg may think he knows capitalism and free markets because he probably hob-knobs with some bigshots. Fact is, he doesn't know squat. His arguments with Thom were centered around attacking the symptoms of the problem instead of the root causes. That's typical RW arguing--demonize a type of person and make them into the problem.
