instead of another on air 'personality' MSNBC highers some field reports and start producing some hard news -- not just your choice of who reads you the feed form the AP.

I think this could be a real turning point for TYT. I dont know if many of you know this, but most of the time when hosts have guest-hosts their ratings go down. I dont think MSNBC is going to be able to deny that Cenk has the power to draw huge audiences and this is going to result in many more appearances.

I would personally love to see Cenk on Countdown, Hardball and Rachel Maddow much more than the same 4 dudes they seem to recycle over and over.

Its only been two days and hes already a guest on some other show on MSNBC hes never been on.

34. TYT Brings Huge Ratings-People responding to a new political philosophy-Progressivism/Liberalsim
Edited on Sat Jul-10-10 08:05 AM by theFrankFactor
Cenk describes the ratings success of his guest host appearance on Dylan Ratigan's program from July 6 and 7.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTbCLZ421NI

Somehow Cenk's devoted efforts to promote actual Progressivism (which I embrace with hopeful aggression) are not being met with the rejection some would have us believe it deserves.

This dismal, lame-ass, slovenly SHIT that is supposed to be accepted as "Liberal", peddled 24/7 both here and in the media, may just turn out to be, not a "sensible", "centrist" philosophy but rather the product of weak political minds that welcome the propaganda served by corporate ad men who offer "Liberal" teases and crumbs as magnificent "change".

What remains to be seen is just how far Cenk will be allowed to stray from the village if in fact Comcast/NBC gives him a spot. There is one and only one mission in corporate media, a mission determined by the very nature of the corporate dicta - MAKE MONEY -.

I hope it becomes profitable to be sober, intelligent, skeptical and Progressive!

I routinely watch/read those who hold political opinions different than my own. I appreciate the intellectual challenge.

My problem with Cenk and Ratigan is based as much on their substance as their style. Being "forceful" is one thing. Being regularly wrong (imo) and boorish is another. I don't watch Glenn Beck either, by the way.

44. That's where credibility goes down the toilet
When you compare the crying, barking, pouring fake gasoline on guests and saying Obama is lighting us on fire Glenn Beck to Ratigan and Cenk. If the hosts are different sides of the same coin in your mind, that says all anyone needs to know.

PS---Lou Dobbs, the right wing NewsBusters, Free Republic and other such message boards all recently bashed Cenk and Ratigan as regularly wrong and boorish. Maybe you guys can all grab a beer!

Edited on Sat Jul-10-10 03:51 PM by jefferson_dem
But i DID just watch the segment of Cenk's discussion on MSNBC about Obama versus Reagan. Good Lord. His presentation was a total cringe-worthy embarrassment -- even worse than I imagined. The guy cherry picks a tiny handful of half-baked random criteria on which to compare these two presidents and then makes "enormous" inferential leaps, with absolutely no substantiation.

For example, he tries to suggest Reagan was not a "fiscal conservative" because deficits went up. Um...he conveniently neglects to mention the bedrock of conservatism and Regan's signature domestic policy "achievement" - his tax cuts on the marginal rates for the most wealthy. Those same taxes will increase under Obama's administration. Cenk talks about amnesty for illegal immigrants under Reagan. He does know that Obama adamantly supports a "path to citizenship", right? I feel ridiculous having to state the utterly obvious, which Cenk either isn't aware of or totally ignores (I suspect the latter).

Sorry, I cannot take Cenk's shtick any more seriously than I can Beck's wild-eyed charge that Obama is a ... socialist because he has installed "czars" within the government. -- Idiocy on either extreme.

48. It was a tight TV segment
Edited on Sat Jul-10-10 03:52 PM by ihavenobias
Hosting TYT with less restrictions (time, etc.) he goes into detail on a regular basis on how Reagan blew up the debt with crazy defense spending and massive tax cuts for the rich.

You got too caught up on the people, the segment was about the much larger and important point that the political spectrum has moved so far to the right since Reagan and in some respects Reagan would be a radical liberal on some key issues (amnesty?) and be run out of the Republican party were he to run today. And Obama would be considered a right wing conservative on some key issues had he run back in the 80's. Yet nutjobs call him a socialist/communist/marxist, partly because they have no historical context of the political spectrum.

And Fox News and right wing talk radio make the absurd claim that the government has moved to the left which has no factual basis.

gaining nothing in return.

I'll believe Obama truly cares about immigration reform and a path to citizenship when he actually works on the issue, not just campaigns on it.
