US troops have started to pull out of the Iraqi capital.

The troops who left on Wednesday are the first group of US soldiers to leave the Iraqi capital who will not be replaced.

And they are happy to be heading home.

Rawya Rageh reports from Sather Airbase outside of Baghdad.

Good news is so hard to find these days that it often gets ignored. Thanks for the K&R! :hi:

3. You're more than welcome and I agree.
We forgot Afghanistan for quite awhile after the invasion of Iraq, but now that Afghanistan has turned into another horror show (record number of casualties last month, two that made the front page of the local paper here... :( ), Iraq is off the radar... I remembered that this was the plan, but fully expected another slew of excuses. Good news indeed and I can't believe that this isn't at the top of The Greatest Page! :kick: :hi:

4. America's media and politicians might have forgotten Afghanistan but I never did
In fact, I've never forgotten Afghanistan since I saw this documentary in 2000: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4201322772364661561#

Reviews (IMDB says 2001 but it was made in 200)....

It's incredibly sad that Afghanistan was forgotten the way it was and left to spiral out of control again.

And Iraq always was and still is on my mind. I am surprised at the muted response that this news we've all been looking forward to is getting.

5. Thanks so much for the links!
This sounds like something that everyone should see... And we not only forgot Afghanistan, but the history that might have saved us endless trouble and so many lives. Does anybody even remember why President Carter boycotted the Moscow Olympics? I do, and I don't need to know... x(

And if we went there for a reason, what's the reason now? It's the same as with Iraq and the infamous WMDs, people forget. And meanwhile, Americans are still fighting there and more lives are lost. :(

I did see the documentary on Section 60 at Arlington, where the casualties of these wars are laid to rest. It was heart wrenching, could barely sit through it. Anyone who believes that we still belong there needs to see that film, too. ;(
