6. It seems a scary place anymore and that's a shame. I have a number of states
on my list I wouldn't care to visit anymore and I find that sad. I realize there are good people in all states, but politicians and the RW give them a bad reputation IMO. What AZ has done (plans) makes me think what group is next. This reminds me of Europe WWII when you had to carry your papers around with you. It just feels uncomfortable to me whichever nationality.

8. Well, I won't while I need to boycott the AZ anti-immigrant law.
But the Grand Canyon is a great place to visit -- likewise the Painted Desert, the Meteor Crater, and so on.

13. Yesterday's LA Times had an interesting article on the effect of AZ's
new law on the local economy.

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-immigration-phoenix-20100723,0,6111019.story

As for myself, I emailed every AZ politico I could think of, as soon as the law was signed, saying I wouldn't be back until it was overturned. For me to boycott AZ in the summer is meaningless, as I dislike hot weather, but I usually do spend several days in AZ every spring, admiring the wildflowers. My first choice would be for the law to be overturned before it takes effect, but, at least, I'd like it to be overturned before the spring bloom.

And, in case I can't avoid going to AZ before then, I put my passport in my purse. No sense going to jail for the crime of being a brunette.

16. WOW - $11 MILLION per month!
Edited on Fri Jul-23-10 04:16 PM by Tx4obama
Excerpt from your link:

In the meantime, a CBS 5 investigation revealed that there is one business that could gain from the implementation of SB 1070 and similar immigration measures. The private prison industry houses illegal immigrant detainees for the federal government. Those companies could gain contracts with state and local agencies to house illegal immigrants arrested for state violations.

Corrections Corporation of America, or CCA, holds the federal contract to house detainees in Arizona. The company bills $11 million per month. CBS 5 Investigates has learned that two of Brewer’s top advisers have connections to CCA.

Paul Senseman is the governor’s deputy chief of staff. He is also a former lobbyist for CCA. His wife is listed as a current lobbyist for the company.

Chuck Coughlin is one of the governor’s policy advisers and her campaign chairman. Coughlin’s company, HighGround Public Affairs Consultants, currently lobbies for CCA.

A friend was discussing this at coffee this morning, trying to "turn" a winger from the dark side to the light, and I've passed this clip along to her, but if you have the later edition, I'd love to see that one, too!

If this is it, can you post it?

19. I wonder if you toss water at Gov Brewer will she melt?
As for Arizona, I feel for the hotel industry, but the fact that since a majority of the people in AZ support such Draconian law, then they deserve the backlash that they're getting.

21. The Haters don't care...
The Haters simply do NOT care about anything but themselves.

The entire state could burn to the ground and the Haters would only
be happy if, there are only Haters (whites) left.

Until the day, where there is not one person of color, legal or not, they will continue
their State of Hate terror reign.

I do find it bizarre, for the Haters hating "outsiders" so much, that many outside the state, got the law passed.

Ironic.

22. AZ is flat brown and ugly - so why go?
I've been to PHX and it's a hot, flat, not so pretty place. I wish I'd made it to Sedona. There may be something redeeming about AZ there.

24. Phoenix is the worst!
The carrying capacity of the "valley of the sun" is about 14 persons...

But...

The Grand Canyon is more than worth a look...

Flagstaff is a fun place...

Sedona is magical...

Tucson is as close to "liberal" as you'll find anywhere -- a great "large city" with a small town feel...

The desert, especially here in the Sonoran Desert down south is BEAUTIFUL...

It's just the concentration of retired white racists, lured by the cowboy-gun-crazed-bullshit-"frontier"-gestalt of the place, the assholes who voted for these fascists, that have screwed the place up...

But not for long. The demographic is changing and that's why the racist voter suppression legislation that is SB1070 was passed in the first place.

And it's a myth that the "majority of Arizonans" are for it. The majority of a tiny, specially selected "likely voters" according to Rasmussen, the right-wing's favorite republican pollsters, that are "for it" -- of course, none of them have read it or could understand it if they did (or the Constitution for that matter).
