30. Yeah, I used to watch CNN in the early nineties all the time
I woke up with it and it often tucked me into bed. But I haven't had anything to do with them in a good 15 years. If this is what CNN is like now, I'm not missing a damn thing!

6. Not only did FOX News magnify the character assassination instead of shedding light on it, even they
believe that President Obama was more worried about the false promotion of racism from their own network; specifically Glenn Beck than what would be promoted from the Internet.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x8791875

"Clearly not guidelines either parts of Fox News or the Administration followed. And that was just his opening salvo. To guest Juan Williams he said: “The White House says it is not, but it is clearly obsessed with Glenn Beck…anyone who doubted it can now stop doubting it.” And then in appropriately aghast tones Shep takes everyone from Breitbart (“a widely discredited website”), the White House, to the NAACP to task for the manner in which they reacted to this video. “What in the world has happened to our industry and the White House…how can the White House lead and govern if what they’re worried about something that happens on a cable news channel which they’ve already said doesn’t matter.” Indeed. Watch below."

Thanks for the thread, Joanne.

but that makes no difference to Roberts and Phillips because they're trying to coopt the emotional outrage from this corporate media magnified character assassination to fit their script; of weakening or taking over the Internet, just like Phillips had no connection to reality during this incident.

http://www.salon.com/news/opinion/glenn_greenwald/2010/07/24/anonymity/index.html

UPDATE: As several commenters noted, this is the same Kyra Phillips responsible for one of the more disgusting television moments of the last decade. In April, 2003, she interviewed the doctor treating Ali Abbas, a 12-year-old Iraqi boy who had just lost 15 relatives, including his father, pregnant mother and three siblings, as well as both of his arms, in an errant American missile strike on the Baghdad suburb where he lived. While this child had burns all over his body, some of them infected, putting him in constant pain, Phillips asked his doctor this question:

Doctor, does he understand why this war took place? Has he talked about Operation Iraqi Freedom and the meaning? Does he understand it?

As Joan Walsh put it at the time: Phillips asked this "question" after the doctor explained that Ali said he hopes no other "children in the war will suffer like what he suffered"; "Phillips seemed shocked by Ali's apparent inability to understand we were only trying to help him." Walsh wrote that the boy's physician had "to explain that the doctors were more interested in treating the boy than indoctrinating him: 'Actually, we don't discuss this issue with him because he is -- the burn cases, and the type of injury, he's in very bad psychological trauma'." I have no doubt that Kyra "Operation Iraqi Freedom" Phillips would be eager to explain to you how she -- unlike those hordes of wretched, anonymous, partisan Internet bloggers -- is an Objective Journalist who doesn't allow any opinions to infect her "reporting." Of course, since the opinions she expresses are the Right Ones, she -- unlike Octavia Nasr -- still has a job on CNN, crusading for High Journalistic Standards.

What is she talking about regarding bloggers blogging anonymously?!?!?!? They are so quick to try to remove the source if it doesn's serve their purpose. In this case, it could not be farther from the truth. It would be like counting Fox news as some anonymous news source.

Mine:

John Roberts calls the Internet a big bathroom wall. Well, John, then cable "news" is the swirling bowl. How long did Lou Dobbs sit on CNN, booking his guests from the Conservative Citizens Council (a white supremacists hate group) and spreading false rumors about immigrants? No one at CNN fact checked him. Amy Goodman did that.

What about those CNN shows that get their content directly from Twitter? Not much fact checking there, either.

And what about Anderson Cooper saying over and over again that "both sides do it" when there is no Breitbart of the left? Oh - and ANDREW BREITBART is not anonymous, a fact that didn't even register with you folks.

The idea that you or anyone in the Info-tainment industry should fact check people who write n the net is hilarious.

17. a classic straw man argument.
If the mainstream media did a decent job of reporting the news, then bloggers would not have to do so. There is a huge gap, and bloggers stepped in to fill it.

It's also a case of attacking the competition - they want to control what news the public hears. Fekkin arrogant twerps.

I don't like CNN but I watch Headline News because they tell more news. All those programs with commentators gets to you. They usually have two people who habitually try to talk over each other and you never hear what they are saying. And not because I am slanted Democratic, if you notice it is the republican guest that yells and screams over the other guest the most. They get to say "their piece", then when the other one starts to talk they butt in, cut them off and talk over them.

34. CNN is a coward, they are afraid that FOX might label them unpatriotic

Once again CNN refuses to criticize FOX because they are cowards. Remember this in 2002? CNN was called unpatriotic because they DARED once question the Bush Administration on Iraq. They are so terrified that they might offend Fascist, Oppressive, Xenophobia (aka FOX) Channel CNN preferred to bend over and hire Glenn Beck just to prove to FOX that it was a compliant little bit*h!

Fox just laughed its as* off and No wonder they are down in the ratings. No-one respects a coward.

36. The Media is CORRUPT
Edited on Mon Jul-26-10 04:17 PM by fascisthunter
the government is corrupt, corporate America is corrupt, the military is corrupt, the Judicial branch is corrupt, Congress is corrupt, the Senate is corrupt...

I throw the word fascism around to call attention to an ideology that never seems to get air time, a real danger because it is real and is prevalent in America... but when all is said and done... it's all corrupt and the media helped make it that way by spreading misinformation and being a business that cares very little about democracy, transparency and journalism itself.

While being corrupt as they all are, they all share one ideology... doing corporate power's dirty work. Welcome to 21st century American Fascism.

37. If you want to watch twisted bullshit like this all day, you watch CNN or Fuxus "News".
Edited on Mon Jul-26-10 10:01 PM by ooglymoogly
If you want the unbiased unadulterated truth you go to the freedom of the internet; That the lairs of these and other networks should control that unfettered truth or access to it, is Orwellian bullshit and corporate propaganda.

The sole purpose of these networks that lied us into a bush presidency and an illegal war that has killed and destroyed the lives of millions of innocent folks, and keeps the same authoritarian pugs in office that designed these wars out of whole cloth, are no more than propaganda catapults for corporations who profit from their propaganda and the total distortion or elimination of truth and the wars and mayhem that has caused.

I'll take the freedom of the internet over these clap trap, crap shooters and corporate shills any day, any time. Watching these twisted, dumb, brainless liars, makes me so sick at the stomach, I feel like projectile puking all over the screen to cover their sick twisted shitheadedness.

I feel like I need a shower after watching that, oh so transparent, pile of twisted crap that had no bearing or resemblance to reality.

It is nothing but red herrings and straw men in a Nazi salute to corporate domination.

First of all, I doubt CNN wants to get into a pissing war with fox. Secondly, the internet is a huge draw for modern ad dollars. If they can do anything to blunt that, then that means more ad money for them.

But I agree, fox was instrumental in the entire case. Damn the public firing of Shirley.
