A very... uhh... unorthodox attack on the NY-based establishment. I especially enjoyed the Lion King one. I did some inquires and contacted DC-based writer Scott McLemee among others and found out that a) this isn't a parody b) when they mention that they are "A Republican Journal" at the end of their Lion King parody they are referring to "republicanism," they are a left-wing print magazine. (heavily marxist/radical from what I can gather).

Kudos for the campaign.

1. Sucky video. If I knew it was mainly basketball I would NOT have clicked on it.
I guess they are not targeting women, especially those that have NO interest in sports.

2. The one thing that has kept me aways from Marxism is I can't recall any Marxist wit. Tons of irony,
though. Quote some Socialist or Stalinist humor. Who's the Communist "Mark Twain"?

McLemee said these guys are apparently a mix of Trotskyites and left-liberals.

As for your question... George Orwell was witty as hell and he was a socialist, Mark Steel is one of my favorite comedians (quite British though). Hitchens and Cockburn in their primes also had tons of wit... I feel like the dissident (non-Stalinist left) has always had their share of funny people.

7. The American left has a wealth of humor, Orwell is not a humorist, wry though he was. He was more
Fabian than socialist.

8. he definitely had sympathies to the left
his anti-imperialist clashed with fabianism, as did his defense of the Spanish revolution. Hell, he had strong Trotskyist symapthies for a time and even fought in a Trotskyist militia POUM during the Spanish Civil War.

after WW2 he died too early to say, but his politics might have been moving in a Fabian direction.

5. Lousy vague ad that says nothing. The mag better be better!
Also, the "republican/republicanism" confusion is not a good indicator.... even if intentional. Are they gonna communicate like this? Never mind!

6. I think that's deliberate of promo.
And if the LK one had you confused then you probably wouldn't be reading a political journal to begin with instead of say HufoPo or something
