The unemployed are fighting back. They have been called lazy and dumb by lawmakers and now they're lobbying for their cause and for benefit extensions. Robert Curtis representative of the 99ers, made up of a group unemployed or underemployed for 73 to 99 weeks, explains how some unemployed have committed suicide. The unemployed are gaining strength in growing numbers and ready to take on the midterm elections this fall.

4. Welcome to the two-party system
It's stupid, it's fucked up, and it's increasingly undemocratic. It's what we have, though, and what you just said is exactly how it will work.

We're looking at the same sort of "left-leaning" voter block that ditched Carter for Reagan, because Khomeini made them wet their trousers. And then voted Reagan again because they believed killing unions and obliterating taxes helped "the little guy."

26 years later, and they're still infants.

3. This could
be the beginning of a third party. If this "develops legs", that may be terrific. It is a sensible thing to do and IMO, if we can get some progressive politicians involved.....

9. Not really
If no party has majority, compromises have to be made. And unless that third party would manifest itself on the outside of the democrats or republicans, that would draw the political decisions towards the middle.

6. They need to always keep plugging the point the welfare directly stimulates the economy and helps..
keep a workforce in waiting for when the economy is back on its feet. If everyone falls though the crack there's no standing up again.

7. SO Pelosi and Reid can MAKE republicans vote for unemployment
and jobs. Seems to me they have tried numerous times and the republicans so no no no. If I was this guy I would organize protests to show up at the offices of those republicans who voted no and tell them they are going to vote no on them when November rolls around. Pelosi and Reid can bring up all the bills they can, but there is no way in hell they can get republicans to vote unless these people threaten not to vote for them. They sure picked the wrong guy to represent them. He is concentrating on the Democrats when he should be concentrating on the republicans.

8. Good...washington NEEDS a wake up call!
I hope more and more unemployed and underemployed join in and vote against those who voted against unemployment benefit extensions.
