Ed Schultz talks about how, thanks to the Republicans in Congress blocking the extension of unemployment benefits, we could be heading back to the days of bread lines, mass unemployment, and an ever-increasing homelessness epidemic.

20. Notice the long list of Democrats, like Ed Schultz, however who are iced by White House . . .
for telling the truth -- !!!

And the long list of Democrats who some here would love to ice --

from Wm. Greider to Michael Moore -- !!!

But they'll quickly defend the Wall St. thugs Obama has given a home --

Geithner, Bernanke, Summers -- !!!

And -- needless to say -- the notorious DLC/Rahm Emmanuel --

What -- get bored with Survivor or dancing with the stars? "Like the chance" -- do you know just how evil that sounds? Are you going to gloat when people wind up on breadlines because of situations they have no control over? New concept for a reality show -- America's Most Poor -- ?????

I have been in food lines. If not for Meals on Wheels(when I was bed ridden), Second Harvest and Poverello i would have gone more than hungry many times.
It is happening now and has been so since runnyraygun turned out those in mental hospitals so they could not be a burden on the welfare system and then the rpigs could pick up the cash and profit from it. The bastards.

It would be poetic justice if the "surprised to be in those lines" were Bush/Cheney voters and Palin adorers!

We are a lot less than 2 years away from economic meltdown.

In case you didn't see Meet The Press on Sunday.. they brought Alan Greenspan out of retirement to sound the warning. He said our situation is very "dire".

Of course no one listened...

and get used to the first American President who actually is an imbecile.

Gender won't be the most important feature of Sarah as President.

Is Ed trying to scare us? How accurate are his previous predictions... I seem to remember he predicted a public option before the HC bill passed.

both are poison --

34. Now . . . "show me your papers" for a bread line??? Wow --
When will Americans wake up and start moving this country back to the

left and away from fascism?

We keep hearing about individuals -- 14 million unemployed -- actually think its

more like 22 million -- but that effects whole families . . . sisters, brothers,

husbands, kids --

Someone was trying to unite the unemployed -- there's a website for it --

Americans have to unite -- seniors, as well -- or this new surge of elitism is going to

have total control over nation ... if they're not close to it already?

:)

My son has also been laid off -- and the job situation is sadly laughable!!

22. I wish I could argue the point
Edited on Tue Aug-03-10 05:39 AM by Roci
but I can't. He's right, six ways from Sunday. But that's not the worst of it for me. I'm a Liberal Democrat in the Kennedy tradition, and I've never hung my head for a moment, not even in the "heady" days of St. Ronnie Raygun, when the "L word" was one of the seven you couldn't use on TV. But I've watched what's happened over the last year and a half, and I just want to say one thing: I WANT MY PARTY BACK!!
This whole thing isn't about "bread lines" and "Soup Kitchens" on the face of it. It's about bringing hope, and lifting people up. The night we elected Barack Obama, I don't think there wasn't a single one of us anywhere as Democrats who didn't permit ourselves the momentary luxury of feeling we had helped save this Nation from something and someone who was the absolute nadir of what leadership is all about. We didn't "Not elect" McCain, we (finally) "fired" The Village Idiot. We got one right and we knew it. But when we woke up and the celebration wore off, we were still hip deep in "Mess" and there was more work to do than we had just done. That's OK, we're Democrats. We're used to pulling people out of "mess" made by the other party. We could get the job done at last, and we knew it that November night.

Barely two years later, I wonder if there's any bit of the party I campaigned with and for out there anyplace. Maybe they're cowering behind the trash cans out back of our old campaign offices.

Eleanor Roosevelt once said that no one takes your dignity away without your permission.

Two years later, Democrats are being willingly whipped, beaten, cowed, and cornered by the likes of the two score of rented hacks who run the party of NO, and by our own Milquetoast "leadership" who've forgotten what it's like to command respect, let alone a Majority. We no longer "need" "Leadership" that cowers, craven and afraid, before these bought off troglodytes who seek only to turn the clock back by force to the mythical days of "Leave it to Beaver". They will stop at nothing to do it, and "Democrats" won't stop them because we can now be counted on to throw ourselves and our beliefs under the bus, so that the 40 hacks on the "other side of the Aisle" won't break a sweat while they filibuster everything in sight without penalty, physically or politically.

I'm sick and tired of having tire tracks on my "backside" because someone with a bendy straw for a spine has thrown the ideas I believe in and still fight for every day under the nearest politically convenient bus.

The people, the ones the Democratic Party exists to serve, are in deep trouble, in case our "Leadership" hasn't noticed. This is no time to be craven, nor to cower, or "compromise". I learned how to Campaign from Bobby in 1968. I know how to win, I know what that feels like, and this ain't it. When we lose, the poor lose, the disadvantaged loose, and everything truly good that we believe in looses, as well. My only question to anyone and everyone who calls themselves a "Democrat" is this: How many more are you willing to give up without a fight, before you lose, right alongside everyone else who seems to have forgotten why we won, and what the people expect us to FIGHT for?

As it is,"Democrats" are giving up on people. How long will it be before people give up on us? How long before the "fun" (2001-2008) starts all over again?

"Democrat" has never equaled "doormat", until now. Now, I hang my head and wonder, not about myself or my own beliefs, but I wonder about all the people we're supposed to "represent". What happens to them when we lay down and lose, just once to often?

33. Where have I been?
The quick and easy answer is "Around." And because I've been "around" I find all of this milksop politics to be even harder to take. A very famous politician once said "I didn't leave the Democratic Party, it left me."
To be as blunt as these urgent times require, I'm beginning to wonder quite openly if the Democrats currently in government (but not for long if they don't snap to darned quick) haven't left me.

It is the fucking RePUKES' fault for blocking EVERYTHING in the Senate, and it is DEMS, yes DEMS, who have been making the progress and trying to do the right things, and you virtually urge people to "stay home" in November as if that will solve anything. Oh yeah right, "teach them a lesson" by helping RePUKES regain the power. Then watch how happy the unemployed will become. STUPID narrative Ed.
