13. Proving points once again
Hamsher joined with Norquist to call for Rahm Emanuel to resign, so it wasn't just a petition. This is exactly why Gibbs said what he said, the far left is incredibly reactionary and doesn't see the big picture.

16. It was a petition for Rahm to resign.
Yes, liberals react when corrupt, sleazy politicians line their own pockets with funds designed to help poor people.

In that sense we are incredibly reactionary, and quite rightly so.

19. Hyperbole doesn't help your position
Grover Norquist called for the resignation because he wants to damage the administration however he can, it wasn't over any issue, so that's why it was wrong for her to align with him, his motivation was wrong.

22. They can talk about whoever they want to talk about, I'm not worried about that
I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy of some on the left. Hamsher wanted Lynn Woolsey to resign as chair of the Progressive Caucus because she didn't feel she is progressive enough, which was very absurd, since you can't get more progressive than Woolsey. I think Hamsher lacks credibility.

Maybe Obama is leaving no excuse for folks to say the advice was one sided! Obama has always listened to all voices and I think that says a lot about who he is as a leader. He is not trying to score political points he is actually the first President who is serious about fixing this country's problems!

If you think Obama is going to follow Grover Norquist's advice then WHY IN HELL is Obama pushing to end the Bush Tax Cuts in an election year?

28. So Rahm's career is more important than the economy
of this country to you?

Let's see ~

Hamsher signed a petition also signed by Grover Norquist asking Rahm to step down after some charges of possible corruption surfaced ( he should be fired imho).

The WH Commission on the Deficit invites Grover Norquist to make recommendations on this country's Republican caused economic collapse.

So! Which one of those two things would have more negative impact on the American people?

It is so easy that I am literally stunned that here in this thread people who already were told of this Grover/White House connection, are still hypocritically pointing AWAY from those facts AT Jane Hamsher.

18. It's okay to rely on Grover Norquist's advice if you're part of the
Obama administration? Why was he invited to give advice on the economy by a Democratic Commission on the deficit? What could he possibly have to contribute on that subject that we do not already know about him?

I know I did not support Obama expecting to see him drag Republicans like Norquist out of the political gutter the people threw them into, and raise them up to positions of influence when they had been successfully relegated to obscurity where they belong.

I was expecting that those who trashed Hamsher for her brief association with him to be positively outraged at the Obama administration for allowing this happen.

They right well should be, but they arent. It is amazing to me what goes on around here.

The really disturbing thing are the actual recommendations he gave to the Commission.

If Grover Norquist has our President's ear we are all doomed.

What I am saying is that Jane Hamsher and Glenn Beck dont dictate policy and Glenn Beck has a lot more say in what goes on at the White House than Jane Fucking Hamsher, they dont listen to her they listen to him.

Barack Obama dictates policy and he allowed Grover Fucking Norquist to testify to the Deficit Commission. So I get where he is coming from.

now you are the spokesperson for the every person on DU

49. Maybe Grover will be outed as a damn fool.
People have to know what a jerk he is. Expose him. She just thinks she is smarter than what she is. I have disliked her for long time.

Grover Norquist Outlines Recommendations to the Obama Debt Commission

On June 30, 2010, Grover G. Norquist testified before the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform as the President of Americans for Tax Reform. He outlined both the reasons why the present debt crisis comes from an overspending problem, not from deficits, why tax rates should not be raised, and several ways to cut spending and foster growth.

Below is his testimony with links to ATR’s proposed solutions:

Why the Problem Is Not Deficits—It Is Spending

Reasons Not to Raise Taxes

Growth: The Only Way to Raise Tax Revenues Over Time

Ideas to Reduce Spending

1. Resurrect the “Byrd Committee.”
2. Give the public five days to read bills before a floor vote.
3. Put every federal transaction and contract online in real time.
4. Term limit appropriators.
5. Sitting Congressmen and Senators should not be able to name buildings or other monuments to themselves, and none should be named for them while they are still living.
6. Block grant education funding and welfare to the states.
7. Freeze the salary and benefit levels of federal employees.
8. Require all eligible federal employees to compete for their job with a private sector bidder.
9. Only hire one new federal employee for every two that retire from government employment.
10. Repeal the Davis-Bacon Act.
11. Reform farm subsidies along the lines of the 1996 “Freedom to Farm” Act.
12. Leave defense cuts on the table.
13. Stop using “emergency” spending loopholes to get around budget rules.
14. Freeze discretionary spending at 2007 levels.
15. Don't Bail Out the Post Office Pension Plan

Ideas to Increase Federal Revenues by Increasing Economic Growth

1. Increase legal immigration.
2. Enact worldwide free trade.
3. Replace tax “depreciation” with full business expensing.
4. Cut marginal tax rates.
5. Make all expiring tax cuts permanent.
6. Move from worldwide to territorial taxation of overseas income.
7. Congress should stay home.
8. Don’t import Europe’s labor laws.
9. Inventory and sell all non-essential government assets.
10. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) should halt its misnamed “Net Neutrality” proceeding

75. knr. thanks for posting. Jane is not the enemy. In fact she is one of the most
perceptive and articulate of the bloggers. At first I didn't understand her short alliance with Norquist, but sometimes two different people/groups can join together for a common purpose. It seems that's what happened with Jane and Norquist. I can respect that.
