"MY FAITH MY VOICE" -- Official PSA
Video Directed by: David Hawa
Video Producer: HAWA DC
Script Written by: Rabiah Ahmad and David Hawa

Description: MY FAITH MY VOICE is a grassroots effort by American Muslims from across the country looking to present their voice on issues affecting Muslims and Islam in America. It is an independent network with no affiliation to any one organization or school of thought. It is a platform for you, me and any one else who wants to reach out and talk directly to America.

Special thanks to Rabiah Ahmad, Antar Hanif, Abdul Malik Ahmad, Nadia Khatib, and all the muslims that came out last minute to support the project.

1. Pathetic
Well intentioned, yes, but the PSA has a very defensive tone to it, almost as if the persons are being forced to prove their patriotism, thereby validating and dignifying the anti-Islam smear campaigns.

It's a lot like a political ad crafted to respond to a smear attack by repeating the smear artist's accusations and then making defensive statements (even if they may be perfectly true). Any political consultant will tell you that that is bound to be a losing strategy.

2. Actually, one of the reichwing memes is that Muslims never denounce terrorism
What's pathetic is that America has got into such an intense anti Muslim fervor they have felt the need to do this at all.

4. So what would you have them say? Should they lie? Should they buy guns?
I think is it disgusting that ANY group of Americans have been put on the defensive by the slanderous accusations about them.

However, I don't think ANY of us should remain silent.

I would be curious to know: what do you think they should do and say, and what you think NON-Muslims should do and say?

5. the psa does not have a defensive tone about it
you're imagining what you want to hear out of it.

And it's really a shame that Muslims have to be put on the defensive about something that those who are doing the persecuting would be crying and wailing and moaning about how unfair everyone is being to them. They can dish this shit out, but they cant' take it.

7. So sad
That this even needs to be done.

Reminds me of a T-shirt I saw a young man of Middle-Eastern descent wearing a few months after 9/11. It said, "I didn't do it."

Now, I'd like to see a similar PSA from Christians. I still have my doubts about them.

8. Come to think of it....

I doubt you'd get vocal RW Christians to deny they ARE trying to take over the country.

10. And isn't it sad that Muslims Americans have been made to
feel they must declare that they are not terrorists? You may have a point as far as PR goes, but when you see the kind of hatred directed at them and you know that many Muslim Americans are very frightened by the hate campaign that is being waged by the far right, what are they supposed to do? If they remain silent, they are accused of not 'staning up against terrorists, if they speak out they are called 'pathetic'. What would you advise them to do?

6. The words will fall upon deaf ears...
and the the right-wingers will only see people with skin a little darker than their own. It is disgusting that any American citizen should even feel the need to do this.

11. If you read the YouTube comments
Edited on Mon Aug-30-10 08:51 PM by Turborama
You can see that there is a small percentage of *minds* (I use that term sparingly) that were made up already and find some excuse to rebut it with useless blather (most of them most likely didn't even watch the video, either).

What we've got to remember is that at the moment it seems like they are a small percentage. Let's hope ads like this (which, as you say, shouldn't even have to be done in the first place) keep that percentage small and hopefully make it even smaller. http://www.youtube.com/comment_servlet?all_comments=1&v=DImb7jvSbaw

I want to know what the distribution of their TV ad will be.
