HB claims that his generation was over segregation and that the (modern) GOP was at the forefront of racial healing in the South.

Rachel fact-checks his ass, then Eugene Robinson (uncharacteristically perturbed) destroys his lying ass.

Basically, a bad few minutes for Haley Barbour's lying, pasty white ass.

5. Basically, Rachel refuted Barbour's assertions about the South of his generation.
She set the timeline and did the history. Robinson came on and did the same thing.

Haley is doing the old "revisionism." We heard this from Scarborough on MJ last week. It's the new talking point: "Republicans led the civil rights movement in the South."

A new low for the GOP.

6. Thanks - and, they always cite
the fact that a few Dixiecrats/Democrats were opposed to civil rights.

11. And guess what else...

By the 70s most of the Dixiecrat who weren't dead (sadly we're still waiting on all of them) or out of office had left the Democratic Party to sit as Republicans.

A story from Texas illustrates just how twisted people like Haley Barbour and Trent Lott are in their "interpretations" of history.

In 1962, Poppy Bush (who was a kinder and gentler Republican, just like the compassionate conservative assterix :sarcasm:), shortly after having carpetbagged his way over to Dixie from the great state of Massachusetts to drill for oil, ran for Senate against a left-wing populist by the name of Ralph Yarborough (D-TX). Yarborough was from the liberal wing of the Texas Democratic Party (which later come to be associated with names we all know, particularly Jim Hightower and Ann Richards) and faced opposition from the various Dixiecrat factions. After winning a tough primary battle, Yarborough faced off against Bush in an election that saw Bush campaign against civil rights for African-Americans and the Democratic share of the vote fall from 74% to 56% as Dixiecrats rallied around the elitist from Massachusetts because they wanted to keep the Black man down.

What does this prove? That the Dixiecrats voluntarily whored themselves out to the national Republican Party and took over the apparatuses of their anemic respective state parties whenever sane people gained control of the Democratic parties (Sadly, that doesn't seemed to have completely happened in Alabama yet, but progress takes time.).

4. Rethuglicans seem to forget that Google and Wikipedia exist.
Like they think everyone will take their word for it, and the series of tubes would be too clogged up for people to find out their lying.

7. That's what they rely on
I mean, Fox News, Rush, Savage, etc could easily be debunked with a few minutes of using The Google, but their audiences just lap up the bullshit they're being fed.

8. It Was In Barbour's Home State Of Mississippi
That had a high school recently announce that only white candidates could run for class president and that only black candidates could run for class reporter. How is that racial healing rather than segregation?

9. Republican Governor
There should be a disclaimer on Barbour's forehead: This mouth for hire, but you have to pay me more than the $1 million paid by Fox News to Republican Governors.

12. I hate to say this, but, Rachel is just preaching to the choir again.
Haley Barbour is most likely very representative of many southerners, that is why he holds such high office. Check Dave Chapelle's take on racism: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VU28Pv26nNQ

19. Every time I see Haley speaking
I flash back to the oily mayor in the late '70's sitcom Carter Country. Same for Falwell and Gingrich.

Barbour's party took the most virulent racist Dixiecrats like Thurmond and Helms in, but nevermind.

On the other hand, Haley's portrayal of identical twin sisters separated at birth in Disney's 'Parent Trap' was boffo.
