2. They need to stop reacting to the reaction |

Every time they do it, it blows up in their face.

4. I can't tell if this was said with a wink so just in case... |
|
Yes, literally speaking that's true. Of course the more important point is WHY the base doesn't turn out to vote. Mediocre policies (and then being slammed for being unhappy with those policies) would actually be to blame.
With that said there are some great progressives that need help (Feingold, Grayson, etc.) and some insane right wingers who need to lose (Angle, O'Donnell, etc.).

5. More crap from Cenk? Who woulda thunk it? |
|
Edited on Wed Sep-29-10 12:34 PM by Tarheel_Dem
Talk about throwing rocks, and hiding your hand. What a loser. This asshole has been up & coming since the Air America days, will he ever really arrive?
I hope Skinner gets a chunk of Cenk's salary, for all the free bandwidth he uses here. :eyes:

Love how he took on the Repugs this week on failed tax cuts and obstructing Dems in order to outsource more jobs!

7. Cenk sucks! I suppose he must have some appeal for his fans? |
|
What would really rock is if he'd step away from the mike, and launch a campaign, and let the Democratic party take a good look at him, so we can all either embrace him, or throw rotten tomatoes at him. I know which group I'll be in.
Cenk will eventually wake up and find that he's just not that significant, in the big scheme of things. He represents such a small minority of the left. I still think he should be paying Skinner a hefty advertising fee for all the free bandwidth he uses here.

9. I was going to stay out of this but |
|
basically you strongly disagree with him and don't find him to be entertaining.
But instead of addressing the substance of his points you feel the need to try and undermine his credibility and engage in personal attacks.
PS---I assume only commentators you disagree with should be "paying a hefty advertising fee", or just Cenk? Videos by Olbermann, Maddow, Maher (and various blogs and articles) are posted all the time, so I suppose they should also pay, despite the fact that this commentary and these videos (collectively speaking, not just talking about Cenk) are a big draw for the people who end up donating to DU. Such an obvious point I shouldn't have to make it but there it is.

10. They should all pay. Afterall, they're building their careers on the backs.. |
|
of generous folks like Skinner. Are these folks all interns at MSNBC? It's a well established pattern, so I don't think I'm speaking out of school, but there are 4-5 very prolific posters who post almost nothing but video of Cenk. This whole forum is a shrine to Cenk. I mean, what's up with that? I could name them, but that may be against DU rules. However, it's obvious they may have some skin in the game.
Aside from the fact that I vehemently disagree with just about every utterance from him, I think it highly dubious that a man of integrity would use someone else's bandwidth, free of charge, to promote his own lackluster career? And where did Cenk ever get the notion that he could ever be considered "the professional left"?

You still haven't written one single sentence to address the actual substance of the video in question. Trying to undermine credibility and putting forth nefarious motives is not at all substantive nor it is specific.
To address your attempt to distract: A big part of the appeal of DU is its unique dedicated video section. There are plenty of message boards and discussion forums available but none of the rest have a political video section which is a big draw. Big draw means more site traffic (which is good in and of itself) and ultimately more donors (aka more money for DU). As for Cenk's career, I think most people think http://articles.latimes.com/2010/sep/08/entertainment/la-et-onthemedia-20100908|The Los Angeles Times> is pretty credible, but who knows.
But again, that's a complete red herring and it couldn't be less relevant to the the topics discussed in the video. Explain why Cenk is wrong and be specific. Otherwise there's no point in going back and forth.

15. "Demogoguery"? If mainstream America gave a shit what Cenk thought about anything... |
|
we'd be saying President Kuci-Nader right now. Fact is, Cenk represents a tiny slither of the angry left, who are overrepresented in the leftosphere, and who deign to tell the rest of us that we place "personalities over policies". Well take a look at this forum, and his "fans" here. Does anyone see the blatant hypocrisy? Cenk is some insignificant dude on the internet & occasionally the teevee, who has a tiny, but loyal following, and couldn't get elected dog catcher.
For someone who appears so upset at the White House for daring to criticize the criticizers, he seems awfully thin skinned. Or is his "outrage" just a cynical ploy to get into a back & forth with the WH to raise his barely existent profile? If he could get the WH to actually acknowledge him, he'd be in hog heaven.

|
I come here to watch the videos. That's mostly what I do here, then I scan the posts. The videos and especially Cenk's videos are the draw for me.

16. I like Cenk. Love his shows. So, here you have different opinions on DU |
|
Amazing isn't it.
The election numbers will tell the story.
I am reminded of the year that Schwarzenegger tried to destroy the schools in California with an election on very destructive propositions to undercut the teachers.
He lost -- big time, big time, big time.
After the election, Schwarzenegger apologized.
Obama should take a lesson from that. He should stop picking on teachers and other hardworking people. And he should start showing respect for those who worked the very hardest to get him elected.
His interview in the Rolling Stone gave me some hope that he recognizes his failure to get his policies through the Democratic controlled Congress.
It is irrational to point fingers at the Democratic base for those failures. Rather, he should criticize those in the Senate in particular who worked against him -- Baucus, Landrieu, Bayh, Nelson, Lieberman, just to name a few mavericks who refused to play with the team.
FDR gained his strength from the base of the Democratic Party which is and always has been in modern times working people. Obama should be chastising the members of Congress that vote against bills that help working people. Just the other day, some Democrats voted against a bill that would have encouraged employers to employ Americans rather than outsource. Those Democrats who voted against that bill should be called out, named for what they are -- and I won't say it here.
We are not the problem. Obama needs to understand that he will get our support when he supports us. The Rolling Stone article could be the beginning of a dialogue. But Obama has to get his values straight and his ideas about us straight first. We don't demand perfection. But we do demand fairness and we need Obama to be on the side of working people. He listens too much to wealthy types.

11. Which part of the Democratic base is to blame? |
|
Edited on Wed Sep-29-10 02:02 PM by Larry Ogg
The one's who wanted a Democratic Leadership?
The one's who wanted a two party system?
The one's who wanted and are waiting for justice that was taken off or never put on the table by spineless Democrats?
The one's who want the Democratic Party to grow a spine?
The one's that are acting like Democrats and not Republicans?
The one's who are waking up?
The one's who have figured out that the whole country has been hoodwinked by both parties?
The one's who have figured out that our two Party system is nothing more than an illusion created by and for the benefit of the elite predator class?
Or the one's that think the country is in trouble because the Democratic Party keeps on pandering and acquiescing to warmongers, banksters, Wall Street cronies, psychopaths, psychotic and delusional conservatives, authoritarians, right wing extremist, and everyone else that makes up the the Republican Party (aka single digit IQ morons)?
Or the one's with an even bigger list than this?

13. I generally like Cenk, but I think he's jumped the shark here. Buck up is motivation, not an insult. |
|
I think Cenk is taking this personally.

14. That expression is the most neutral part of the talking point |

which was "whining" from Biden and "inexcusable and irresponsible" from Obama.
And I don't think that browbeating voters is a change we need, do you?

They didn't want to fire up the base, they wanted the base to pull over to the side of the road and text their resignations before Glenn Beck comes on so they wouldn't have to fire them.
