Breaking News! It gets your attention even when some news reports aren't that accurate or urgent. Is this just a method to put the withering television news back in the spotlight? RT's Priya Sridhar explains that ten years ago you would only see breaking news when there was something breaking but today it's so common with the pressure to fill a 24 hour news cycle and remain competitive.

4. Breaking wind!
If only we got some news.

I stopped watching the news because it was all "News of the Future!" with "It could be...." and "Will so & so do something in 2012?" and then they go on for 30 minutes about something in the future.

How about what happened today? In Africa? or South America? the 2 continents in which apparently week after week nothing happens... nothing at all!

Teabaggers like to quote "Broadcast News"... the movie... yelling "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not gonna take it any more". But they forget the cynicism of that film and how it's mocking such empty platitudes. They forget they had a segment on the news show in the film called "News of the future! With psychic ...(whatever the character's name was)". Who knew that "Broadcast News" was prophetic???
