6. Governor Huckabee: regulates genitals not banks.
That's my problem with him. I have no problem with him having his beliefs, just wanting to legislate private behavior according to them. How is this small government, to fixate on who rubs whom's genitals together or what is going on in a woman's uterus. The list of religious moral laws goes on. The issues of the religious right belong in their church, not our states or nation.

8. Pretty soon, Republican primaries will fall to the level of "Vote for me, I'm the stupider one!"
Sarah Palin: "No, I'm stupider."

Christine O'Donnell: "No, I'm stupider."

Mike Huckabee: "No, I'm stupider."

_________ Bush: "No, I'm stupider."

(The yet to be named Bush would win because Republican voters would confuse him with those other Bushes.)

9. It certainly seems like a race to the bottom for the republicans.
Each day brings fresh news of mental instability among republicans. Today's local paper here has a headline "Clarence Thomas Called Unstable" for his pornography fetish and other sick behavior. A few weeks ago we heard of the republican candidate who likes to dress up as a Nazi. Last week a republican candidate said that if the republicans don't win the election, an armed overthrow of the US government will be necessary (a nice followup to Sharrron Angle's "Second Amendment solution" to the same problem). Christine O'Donnell is "not a witch" but nonetheless knows nothing about the Constitution she claims to love so dearly. Carl Paladino threatens to kill a reporter; Joe Miller has one handcuffed. Rand Paul supporters throw a female protester to the ground and stand on her head.

People. What on earth is going on here? Day after day, the craziness and lunatic violence on the far, far looney tunes right just goes up and up and up.

Here's what I don't understand. In France, protests bring the country to a standstill when the retirement age is raised from 60 to 62 (!). Here, crazy behavior like that detailed above (and so much, much more), which directly threatens America as a nation, is met with a shrug as the American voter returns to watching Dancing With the Stars with his big new bag of Doritos.

What is wrong with us here? Why are we like this? Will it ever change?
