1. Cenk is a jerk.
Here is the presser:

http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2011/02/15/press-conference-president

Medicare and Medicaid are huge problems because health care costs are rising even as the population is getting older. And so what I've said is that I'm prepared to work with Democrats and Republicans to start dealing with that in a serious way. We made a down payment on that with health care reform last year. That's part of what health care reform was about. The projected deficits are going to be about $250 billion lower over the next 10 years than they otherwise would have been because of health care reform, and they’ll be a trillion dollars lower than they otherwise would have been if we hadn’t done health care reform for the following decade.

But we're still going to have to do more. So what I've said is that if you look at the history of how these deals get done, typically it’s not because there’s an Obama plan out there; it’s because Democrats and Republicans are both committed to tackling this issue in a serious way.

And so what we've done is we've been very specific in terms of how to stabilize the discretionary budget, how to make sure that we're not adding additional debt by 2015. And then let’s together, Democrats and Republicans, tackle these long-term problems in a way that I think will ensure our fiscal health and, at the same time, ensure that we're making investments in the future.

14. For partisan Dems who despise criticism regardless of how factual it is, yes.
For non-partisan Dems and progressives who realize that praise, support AND criticism are necessary depending on the situation, no.

20. That's true.
But it has to be based on reality.. Too bad Cenk and his fanboys are running low in that area.

21. Wow.
Your point-by-point refutation of the arguments presented in the video are devastating! You really crushed Cenk's analysis and gave specifics on why his criticism wasn't 'reality based'.

;)

25. Crap is crap
I've seen enough of Cenk's "analysis" to take whatever he says with a grain of salt. But if you desire an example how someone who knows what they're talking about vs the crap that leaves Cenk's mouth here it goes from the blog "The Field with Al Giordano" this piece talks about the Kagan appointment and Cenk's little piece he wrote about the subject.

The other “Progressives Against Obama” member I’ll take to the woodshed today is radio and TV host Cenk Uygur, for whom the Kagan nomination likewise is not really about Kagan but about Obama himself. He writes:
“My problem with her is my problem with Obama. Cheney and Bush moved the ball 80 yards down-field (sic, as anyone who knows the NFL spells it downfield, without hyphen), whether that was on executive power, warrantless wiretapping, pre-emptive wars or just about any other issue you can think of. And Obama's bold and brilliant response is to move the ball 10 yards in the opposite direction. Not good enough. Not remotely good enough…
“He is never going to throw the ball down the field. If you like two yard pick-ups by a running-back going straight up the middle, you'll love Obama. It's the Eddie George presidency. What he doesn't seem to get is that the other side is eventually going to get the ball back and then it won't seem like a major accomplishment that we went from our own two-yard line to our own twelve-yard line. It'll be viewed as a tremendous disappointment.”
Actually, Mr. Uygur, you ought to get to know the games of football and of politics before nominating yourself as head coach or quarterback. You should at least know the rules of the game. In football, moving the ball ten yards downfield is precisely good enough. It is called gaining a first down, that which allows your team to remain in possession of the ball and keep battling downfield toward touchdowns and field goals, while denying the opposing team time on the clock to do so.
The name-dropping of running back Eddie George is also revealing as to just how greatly Uygur’s comparison fails epicly: Eddie George, at Ohio State University, won the Heisman Trophy in 1995, and he rushed for more than 10,000 yards in only eight years in the NFL (presidents, by law, can’t last more than eight) and George helped bring his middling team to the Super Bowl in just four years, one first down at a time. In his first season with the Houston Oilers-cum-Tennessee Titans franchise (when George earned the NFL’s Rookie of the Year title), the team won just eight games to eight losses. By 1999, the Titans had 13 wins to three losses and went to the Super Bowl.
What got them there? First downs and ball possession, largely thanks to Eddie George: That team won by running the ball up the field three or four yards per play.

29. If your was point Cenk is full of shit then you're welcome.
What point is that? Your guy doesn't know what the hell he's talking about, then we can agree on that one. One I admitted it was example of how Cenk opens his mouth and bullshit falls out. And two the article does a nice job cleaning Cenk's clock. Another thing I gave you the blog name and believe me it's not a selected quote this dude calls out all of these fake ass progressives like Cenk. Here's another section of that epic post "Guys like Solomon and probably Uygur (the jury is still out on the latter) are a bit distinct from pond scum like Greenwald and Hamsher, who are only in it for their own protagonist careers. The former are more akin to those fans in the bleachers always screaming at the quarterback to throw the long ball even against teams skilled at interceptions."

The overall point is that your guy is full of shit and no matter what this president does he's going to take the opposing opinion.

3. Why is he a jerk? Because you disagree with him?
Everything Obama said was straight out of the GOP strategy playbook. Social Security should not be addressed at all...it is a non issue. The fact that he keeps bringing it up as something he wants to work on, is very telling.

12. YES Social Security should!
Edited on Wed Feb-16-11 02:47 PM by SkyDaddy7
The wealthy should not have a ceiling on what they pay into it! They should have to pay into Social Security all year! This is just another tax break for the wealthy the rest of America does not get!

This alone would clear up any problems SS would have beyond 2037!

Sorry if that bothers you.

Obama discuss that in quite some time. is that still his plan? Has he taken all other cuts off the table? He wants to work with the GOP on SS...uhh last time I checked, all the Republicans want to do is cut it.

28. Absolutely, SkyDaddy7
Everyone in the country should pay into Social Security all year round on all their income. If we did that, we could fund Medicare for all over 65 including the wealthy out of the money in addition to Social Security benefits which are already funded.

Why can't Congress and Obama focus on creating jobs instead of cutting Social Security. If they created jobs, healthy seniors would retire later. They are approaching this from the wrong direction. People are retiring early because they cannot get jobs not because they want to take early Social Security.

11. Listen to Obama's voice. It breaks slightly. Listen to the temp, the speed.
He is extremely nervous about this. Why? Because he feels guilty. That is the voice of a guilty Obama. He isn't exactly lying. He is just cheating. His voice, the quaver, the rhythm of his speech, the pitch, the sound of fright, of nervousness, is typical of someone telling a lie. Obama has already sold out the helpless and the elderly of the country. You can bet that I am right. Just perk up your ears and listen. And then wait and see. You will learn that I am right on this one.

8. Second that!
I second that! Mr Obama deserves all the heat he's getting, for backing down on the public option, allowing a 2 yr extension of tax cuts for the greedy...er...I mean rich, and now.... likely reducing social security benefits. Way to go Cenk! Keep up the great reporting!!

And, way to go Mr President! (sarcasm)
