Why Isn't Wall Street in Jail?

Financial crooks brought down the world's economy — but the feds are doing more to protect them than to prosecute them.

1. zero accountability for the biggest criminals.
The system is perfect,. in that none can rise to a position of sufficient power to change it,. they will always be weeded out by the systems many filters that only let the sociopatic greedmongers keep all the power,. In this way the powerful can get away with murder, and billion dollar scams, with no fear of every being held to account for it. If Obama had any willingness to pursue the crimes of the previous administration he would never have became president. Period.

In the end, the system will eat itself,. however it will unfortunately cause catastrophic mayhem and suffering in dong so. (This fact still brings a little smile to my face.)

2. What you say is absolutely true.
We see this with a quick glance at who has Obama's ear -Geithner and Summers. But who can we replace Obama with? As if it's our choice anyway. That old Financial Services Modernization Act has really paid off big for the Texas mafia.

5. And another thing...
Matt Taibbi should watch his back. He might end up committing suicide with a bullet in the back of his head.

7. Obama's #1 Campaign Contributor
was Goldman-Sachs. He hired Tim Geithner and Larry Summers.

It should be clear now why no one gets prosecuted. However, Obama is going after medical marijuana sellers in CA and CO.

10. Thanks to Cenk and especially to Matt Taibbi.
And the revolving doors between law firms, Congress, regulatory agencies and corporations are what are ruining our country. It is very hard to understand if you haven't seen it up close and personal. Many academics are oblivious to what is going on.

This affects every area of our society -- from education regulation to standards for chemicals to requirements for safety in mines to takeovers, to banking, every single sector -- drug manufacture, food production, offshore drilling. All of these areas involve at least some regulation and necessarily some lawyers, some lobbyists and Congress. It is a world that is hidden from the sight of the average American.

A lot of money, lives and careers are at stake.

The brightest and best don't have a chance in that milieu -- if they also happen to be really honest and not all that interested in wealth. So, guys, that is what is wrong with our country.

Look at the list of the 75 largest law firms in the US, and Bingo. This is the real business of a lot of the lawyers in those firms as well as the lawyers in some of the smaller boutique firms. Not all, but a lot of the "best" lawyers in the country play this game.

Work in a regulatory agency for a few years. Learn the trade. And then move on to the big money. And take your friendships with you, of course.

12. Laws-shmaws
The rule of law is for the little people. (AKA "the bottom 98%")

Wealthy elites can enrich themselves at the expense of the bottom 98% with impunity!

While I'm at it, the Nixon Doctrine of "if the President does it, it's not illegal" is the new law of the land.

Our American President now has the power of Kings', Monarchs, Tyrants, Strong Men and Dictators.

The United Banana Republic of America! Our Founding Fathers would be so proud!

15. Why Isn't Wall Street in Jail?
Edited on Fri Mar-04-11 08:12 AM by Charleston Chew
"Nobody goes to jail,” writes Matt Taibbi in the new issue of Rolling Stone magazine. “This is the mantra of the financial-crisis era, one that saw virtually every major bank and financial company on Wall Street embroiled in obscene criminal scandals that impoverished millions and collectively destroyed hundreds of billions, in fact, trillions of dollars of the world’s wealth." Taibbi explains how the American people have been defrauded by Wall Street investors and how the financial crisis is connected to the situations in states such as Wisconsin and Ohio.
