Venezuela denies reports Gaddafi on his way there

Both Libya and Venezuela on Monday denied reports that Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi was seeking asylum as a violent revolt gripped his country and would join his friend President Hugo Chavez in the South American oil producing nation.

Fueling rumors in the media, British Foreign Secretary William Hague said he had seen information to suggest Gaddafi had fled Libya and was on his way to Venezuela, a fellow OPEC member.

But Venezuela's information minister said Gaddafi, who has ruled Libya for more than 40 years, was not coming.

1. Don't let the scumbag in, Hugo!
Edited on Mon Feb-21-11 06:19 PM by Ken Burch
You'd just give HRC the excuse she wants to overthrow you and put the capitalist uglies back in power. Neither her or El Perro Grande ever wanted any regime that cared about workers or the poor in power anywhere so letting Qadaffi/Khadaffi/Gadaffi or however the hell he's tranliterating it this week come in would let her have the chance she's been dreaming of.

4. Gadhafi: 'I'm in Tripoli, not Venezuela'
Libyan leader appears briefly on state TV amid violence, unrest sweeping nation

Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi appeared for less than a minute Tuesday morning on state television and made brief remarks to say he was in the capital Tripoli and to deny rumors he had fled to Venezuela amid the violent revolt against his 41-year rule.

Gadhafi was seated in the passenger seat of a small vehicle holding an umbrella up through the open door. It had been raining in the capital for two days. His remarks were aired about 2 a.m. local time (7 p.m. Monday ET).

"I am in Tripoli and not in Venezuela. Don't believe those misleading dog stations," he said, referring to media reports that he had left the country.
