Eric Sheptock is the well known homeless advocate who uses Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook to advocate for homeless rights.

Eric talks about the origins of the homeless shelter he stays in called the Community for Creative Non-Violence (the CCNV). He points out that the homeless shelter may be forced to close down before the end of the decade. He also talks about problems with being homeless in Washington, DC.

There are over 7,000 homeless people just in D.C.

1. Kudos to him for taking the reins and speaking out. This isn't a popular issue, and I hope he can

get enough people to listen, and to become ACTIVE.

How people can hear stories like this and not be moved to take action is beyond me.

Until there are large numbers of people taking action and speaking out, it really isn't doing any good to "contact our representatives". We are on the losing end of this.

4. The figures are shocking

Over 7,000 people just in DC without a home. Also read that the length of time without a home is much, much longer now.

5. YES, you bring up an important point.. the time being homeless is now longer.

Yet, most "sources" haven't caught up with that fact.

When cities which have waiting lists have waits YEARS long, and many cities no longer KEEP a waiting list, then obviously it is going to be a long time to get a place to live.

Yet, people cling to this "chronically homeless" shit, which is CODE for "Alkie", "Druggie", "Crazy", etc.

Totally ignorant.

but Obama is ready to cut more money from low-income housing.

And we are supposed to believe that he is "on our side".

Can you imagine how frightened and alone that young mother must have felt?!?! How can ANYONE be so heartless?!? I would have taken up a collection from the staff immediately to get her a motel room!

I think anyone who blames the homeless for their situation needs to remember what is written and attributed to Jesus Christ: "What you do to the least among you..."
