CNN Poll: Most say govt. shutdown bad; Tea Party disagrees

Washington (CNN) - Most Americans say that a federal government shutdown would be bad for the country, according to a new national poll.

But a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey also indicates that Democrats and Republicans don't see eye to eye on the issue, and self-described Tea Party movement supporters say such a shutdown, even for a long period of time, would be a good thing. The poll's Tuesday release came just before the House of Representatives voted to continue funding the federal government for three weeks, a major step towards temporarily avoiding a possible government shutdown.

Nearly six in ten people questioned in the poll say that it would be a bad thing for the government to shut down for a few days because Congress did not pass a new spending bill, with 36 percent saying it would be a good thing for the country. And if a government shutdown lasted a few weeks, that figure would rise to 73 percent.

CNN Poll: Unfavorable view of tea party on the rise

Washington (CNN) - Nearly half of all Americans have an unfavorable view of the tea party movement, putting it in the same company as the Democratic and Republican parties, according to a new national poll.

A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Wednesday indicates that 32 percent of the public has a favorable view of the two year old anti-tax movement, which also calls for less government spending and a more limited role for the federal government in our lives. The 32 percent favorable rating is down five points from December.

Forty-seven percent of people questioned say they have an unfavorable view of the tea party, up four points from December and an increase of 21 points from January 2010. That 47 percent is virtually identical to the 48 percent unfavorable ratings for both the Democratic party and the Republican party in the same poll.

If they're that concerned about cutting spending, where were they when the 2 year taxcut extension (i.e. benefitting the rich) was being passed? If we had ended the taxcuts for the greedy, we could've had close to 100 billion in revenue per year, and this would've been a non-issue!!

And we wouldn't have this horrible assault on our poor and middle-class!!!

and do the math, "social programs" like EDUCATION, social security, food stamps, etc... make up a very small portion of the budget.
If you want to really make a difference, you have to cut DEFENSE (?), tax the wealthy (create revenue), etc... things that actually make a difference to the deficit.

Here's a little parable I'd like to ry out on these Kool-Aid drinkers;
Let's say you had an awesome job and you were making crazy money. You bought the most expensive house you could possibly afford, you bought the most expensive car car you could afford, but you were able to make the payments because you were loaded. Then one day your boss had to lay some people off, so you took a big salary cut to keep your job, but it was OK because you had a bunch of platinum cards which would see you through until things picked up again. Unfortunately just at the same time you got yourself a hot new girlfriend who had major caviar taste, and who needed regular wining & dining plus jewelry three times a year. So you went and got a second mortgage and more credit cards. (Anybody see where this is going?) Today your girl has upped her jewelry requirements just as your boss has lowered your salary again. You, Jerry Lundegaard, are not going to fix things by eating cold weenies for dinner on Mondays.

I guess my point is these dildos don't get that trickle down economics is a fairy tale, and we're not going to fix things by giving more tax breaks to the zillionaires
