I can't believe this actually happened! I am in the Marine Corps and deploying overseas this month so I decided to drive up to Washington D.C. for the first time this weekend and actually met the president! Everything worked out perfectly while sight seeing because he only stopped by the Lincoln Memorial for a few minutes. I'm still completely amazed that this actually happened.

but someone just happened to post it on YouTube. It looked in the video like the President had pre-planned to greet everyone in your little group there. I base that on how he and his security peeps seemed to immediately veer to your direction as there were going down the steps.

Lucky you and thanks for sharing

ETA... How did this vid end up in my reply to you? I don't see where to remove it on this edit either. Bizarre!

5. Congrats! I am thrilled for you!
I hope to someday make it to D.C.
It must be an awesome experience!

I was 'conceived' in D.C. when my mother spent some time there to see my father when he was in the Navy in 1959 :)

(Justin Bieber's young enough to be my grandson--what kind of a girl do you think I am?)

And did I hear the security detail instruct everyone to keep their hands in sight?

9. in my 55 years on this planet
he's the only president i've ever seen in the flesh, and that was from some distance and before he was elected. i've seen some other president's caravan using up the entire northbound side of the 405 - who was that anyway?

anyhow. how exciting for you, and you have it on video!!

31. I've seen lots of presidents in the flesh, met more than a few
Only two of them really had "it," that intangible magnetic charisma that is difficult to describe,
no matter what one might think of their politics.

One was Bill Clinton. The other is Barack Obama.

52. I saw him from a distance at the dedication of IAD
I was eleven years old, and I got an autographed picture of him made out to me personally for
my 11th birthday in March 1963 (Pierre Salinger was a neighbor at the time--it helped!).

He did radiate charisma, too, no two ways about it.

He does the same thing when he gets off of the plane, and doesn't use the handrail.

51. Yeah it's pretty amazing.
I met Nixon when I was 8 during a kids day at the air force (we were sworn in and spent a couple of weeks with our parents. It was great he happened to be visiting when we were sworn in so he did the ceremony. Afterward, he actually bent down, took my little hand in his huge hand and said, "welcome to the air force little man." Nixon, but what the heck.

Since then, I met Reagan when he was governor of CA, Bradley in '86, Jesse Jackson in '88 (managed his campaign in San Diego), became friends with Cesar Chavez in 88 to his death, met Jerry Brown in 1992 (he told me to think about, and I did but lost, running for the California Assembly) and quite a few congress critters. Funny thing is I remember each of them vividly. It's pretty amazing to rub elbows with these people.
