A school shooting. This one in Texas. A kindergartener attacked his fellow kindergarteners. Tell me, where and when will the next incident be? And will you or won't you turn a blind eye to it? What then?

I report the News of the Day, and talk about the school shooting in which a kindergartener shot and wounded his fellow kindergarters, and discuss guns, support of guns, the Second Amendment, gun control/regulation, and gun reform.

I don't care about the odds on the government doing something about this. I want something done on this NOW!
Feel free to leave whatever stupid troll comment you want on this video, but UNLESS IT INCLUDES A CONDEMNATION OF GUN VIOLENCE , I will delete it. (All comments approving of this video are OK).

Please leave questions and comments. Inappropriate comments will be deleted. Also, please rate and subscribe. Thank you, loyal viewers!

1. Obviously the answer is more guns in the classroom
Imagine if all the other kindergartners had been packing heat. They could have whipped out their guns and done something about this.

:sarcasm:

3. GOP has conceded with medicare, don't concede by bringing up guns
There are issues that turn off the majority of voters when even brought up:

Medicare / Social Security
The Draft
Abortion
Prayer in school
Guns
Commodity shortages / Raising commodity prices

When either party brings up their more extreme views, they loose net vote counts. It should only be done when the base needs to be fired up. The base already is fired up, the middle was lost. Work to capture the middle. There are MUCH higher priorities than guns. Guns don't cause violence. Desperation does. Poverty does. Gotta give people reason to live in order for people to value life. The party needs to get elected and promote the general welfare of society. Forget the fringe issues, their a waste of time and energy and too costly politically.

A very good point.

8. Pick your battles carefully
Excellent points about the causes of violence and self-defeating arguments. Some issues are guaranteed to offend more people than can possibly be rallied to the cause. Offending is easy and long-lasting; persuading requires thought.

4. Well, what do you propose?
Edited on Thu Apr-21-11 06:11 AM by LAGC
The problem with most gun control efforts is that it only makes gun-owners hunker down and buy LOTS more guns in response to the perceived threat. It seems counter-productive, if your goal is to reduce the availability of guns in society. Overall violent crime has been trending down for years, sometimes I think if the gun control advocates would just kindly shut the fuck up and quit stirring the pot, fewer people would buy handguns as they don't see the need to have one for self-protection against crime, as the perceived threat slowly diminishes.

Of course I agree with you that this kindergarten incident is tragic, but there are already laws on the books that the parents can be charged with (for negligence).

I guess I'm just at a loss as to what you are trying to accomplish here.

6. Re: Well, what do you propose?
Gun control is a hard sell. This, many times, is due to the fact that legislators have little or no knowledge of the subject.

Doctors (and their groups and associations) mostly run the AMA and the AMA spends time and money lobbying legislators on passing law about medical issues. The NRA run by amateurs and professionals in the gun business does the same a suddenly that's a bad thing.

Frequently I see law makers acting like a carpenter who has only a hammer. (When all you have is a hammer, everything starts to look like a nail.) Sometimes a new law isn't always the best solution.

10. Violence is trending down because abortion was legalized

11. I agree.
But notice, even as millions more guns flood the streets, the crime rate is STILL falling.

9. Basic fact.
Yesterday I missed the piece in the video where the original poster seemed to think that gun violence in DC was low because of more restrictive gun control laws.

DC has the HIGHEST rate of firearm homicide in the US.
The DC rate is almost DOUBLE the rate of the next highest state. (Louisiana)
