My TSA Pat Down Experience

...

Anyway, after “opting out,” I proceeded to follow a very nice older female TSA employee to the “pat down” area. It was an inconvenience, but I thought, “No biggie. I just went through this at LAX for the first time and it wasn’t too bad, so let’s just get it over with.”

Well, this pat down was completely different. It was MUCH MORE invasive than my first one at LAX, just a week before. To say that I felt invaded is an understatement. What bothered me most was when she ran the back of her hands down my behind, felt around my breasts, and even came in contact with my vagina! Honestly, I was in shock, especially since the woman at LAX never actually touched me there. The TSA employee at DFW touched private area 4 times, going up both legs from behind and from the front, each time touching me there. Was I at my gynecologist’s office? No! This was crazy!

I felt completely helpless and violated during the entire process (in fact, I still do), so I became extremely upset. If I wanted to get back to Los Angeles, I had no choice but to be violated, whether by radiation or a stranger. I just kept thinking, “What have I done to deserve this treatment as an upstanding, law-abiding American citizen?” Am I a threat to US security? I was Miss USA, for Pete’s sake!

1. Is she upset because she was "Miss USA, for Pete's sake!"?
Edited on Wed Apr-27-11 03:24 PM by Avalux
I flew on Monday - was body-scanned, patted down, AND had my hands wiped to check for chemicals. It wasn't a fun experience.

I'm just as cute as Susie, but wasn't Miss USA; I certainly don't like being treated that way, but I get that it was random selection. It's a lot fairer than selecting people based on their appearance, or what beauty queen title they haven't held.

3. no, she is upset because she was fondled by government workers.
Just because YOU don't have a problem with being felt up by strangers, don't try to turn this into celebrity whining.

10. why do they test our hands for chemicals that have nothing to do
with bombs? they have told me before that my stuff and hands tested postive for cannabis, searched my shit and let me on the plane because i didnt have any weed. but why do they look for cannabis as a bomb making material?

also it is offensive to be searched like a jail inmate just to take a flight to a foreign country.

5. I see no way you could have derived that from her video. She was
upset because someone touched her vagina in a public airport, and that such inspections are necessary at all. I thought she did a good job. I wouldn't have cared if she was formerly Miss America, or Judy Smith.

I understand she was upset about the patdown. I would have preferred she make a statement about how NO ONE should be treated that way, instead of what she said.

9. unless the woman stuck her finger up into Susie, she was touched on her vulva NOT vagina
The vagina is the passageway between the vulva and the uterus. The vulva are the outside parts that are touched when touching someone through their clothing.

Rather like the difference between wiping after you poop and having an enema. Outside vs inside. No, it wasn't her vagina but her vulva. Rant off.

Now, to address the subject of TSA patdowns, I think they are idiotic and getting together another petition, using her Ms USA status to do this is a good thing.

vulva, which includes the vagina.

24. If you are going to be a spokesperson, use correct terms.
No, the vulva does not include the vagina. Here is a chance to educate yourself!
http://www.physiciansselect.co.uk/viagra-for-women.htm
Labia Majora - the labia majora are the outer lips of the vulva, which are pads of fatty tissue that wrap around the vulva from top to bottom around the mons veneris to the perineum. The labia is usually covered with pubic hair, and contain numerous sweat and oil glands.

Vagina -The vagina extends from the vaginal opening to the cervix to the opening to the uterus. The vagina serves as the receptacle for the penis during sexual intercourse, and as the birth canal through which the baby passes during labor. The average vaginal canal is three inches long, possibly four in women who have given birth. This may seem short in relation to the length of the penis, but during sexual arousal the cervix will lift upwards and the fornix may extend upwards into the body as long as necessary to receive the penis. After intercourse, the contraction of the vagina will allow the cervix to rest inside the fornix, which in its relaxed state is a bowl-shaped fitting perfect for the pooling of semen.

Labia Minora - the labia minora are the inner lips of the vulva, whose thin stretches of skin and tissue reside directly inside of the labia majora. The labia minora provides added protection to the vagina, urethra, and clitoris. The overall appearance of labia minora can vary widely amongst women. Some women have small labia minora while others have larger lips that protrude from the labia majora. The labia minora is analogous to the male strotum.

31. Baloney. The vulva includes the vaginal opening, which is what
may have gotten touched by the TSA person. The vagina starts the tunnel, which the TSA would not have touched and had she, Susie would have reported that.

34. The vagina is not a "tunnel" but a passageway. And no, vulva and vagina are different
Look at the diagram in previous post.

Wiki (not a reputable source) says "The vulva (from the Latin vulva, plural vulvae. See etymology) is the external genital organs of the female mammal.<1> This article deals with the vulva of the human being, although the structures are similar for other mammals."

Furthermore, that same non-reputable wiki says
"the opening (or urinary meatus) of the urethra
the opening (or introitus) of the vagina"

From a reputable source http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002343.htm
"The vulva is the external female genitalia. It includes the "lips" or folds of skin (labia), clitoris, and the openings to the urethra and vagina."

The vulva does not include the urethra or the vagina but the openings to them. They are separate.

The vagina is a passageway. Not sure what tunnel you mean.

It doesn't matter how you parse the terms. To pay more attention to the terminology than the intent is offensive and stupid.

33. No, she was NOT upset because of that. I guess you didn't
listen to her, and the countless other travellers, including little children, who have expressed the same outrage.

You may not mind having your constitutional rights violate, she obviously does, as do many, many others. You are being used to create profits for people like Michael Chertoff, Rudolph Giuliani and the rest of the fearmongers who failed to stop the disasters they were in a position to stop, and now have the ultimate gall to profit from those failures.

She was sexually assaulted at the airport, just one more in a long list of innocent people who have had the same disgusting experience.

You might want to consider what you are approving of when you accept this kind of abuse, which has nothing at all to do with security and has done nothing to make anyone safer.

You are being tested, to see how much people will tolerate. There should be a no tolerance policy wrt to these disgusting practices among the American people.

I really admire this woman for taking a stand. She would make a great spokesperson for ending these despicable and disgusting, sick practices. And no, it isn't about being 'cute'. It's about being smart, which she clearly is.

2. I'm with her. I opt out every time.
Unfortunately my buddy who flies weekly has no issue with the backscatter x-ray. All he cares about is getting through security as fast as possible. That to me is just as bad as the old lady who told Miss USA the alternative to backscatter x-ray/invasive pat-downs is to get blown up.

27. this is old fashioned conditioning
in my home country the Securitate did the same to humiliate people into submission and to make them lose any sense of pride or privacy. I was stopped by border guards as a young teenager every time I wanted to go to visit my grandparents home near the border. Even though they knew me they would make me wait for hours and when they finally were ready to "process me" they would make me unpack my backpack, they would inspect my personal belongings and sometime they would simply confiscate what they wanted.

the sexual element I believe is uniquely American but other than that this is what predatory power does. It's a mental illness. People in our corporate and political elite should be institutionalized not in power running things. they urgent need mental health intervention.

28. Bravo for speaking out.....
The fact that she is a high profile like Miss America and speaking out adds one more voice to the multitude speaking out.

My sweet, very attractive daughter was felt up. She went through the scanner and they said she had to go through the enhanced pat down. She said they were so forceful that they actually parted her labia. She had to fight back the urge to jump back. She was so anger and humiliated by it she was crying when she told me about it.

I am so sick of people saying don't fly or would you rather be blow up. Well, TSA has yet to catch a terrorist and I trust my fellow passengers to catch a terrorist before TSA. Buying a ticket to fly does not make me a terrorist suspect and subject to unreasonable search and seizure. TSA is a Nazi like organization training us to be submissive.

And it won't stop and the airports. They already have Viper portable units that go to bus stations, road and events. Soon all we will be able to freely do is go to work if we have a job and come home. Yeah they hate us for our freedoms.:eyes:
