The Right widely criticized President Obama for suggesting Israel return to its pre-1967 borders in seeking peace with Israel. But Obama is not the first president to suggest Israel return to its pre-1967 border. In his final year, President George W. Bush suggested IN ISRAEL that they consider returning... not just their pre-1967 borders, but their pre-*1949* borders.

2. Yes. So did Clinton.
That position is in accordance with international law, which the US helped to write. Unfortunately, Israel is a protectorate, more or less.

Israel has 500 or so UN resolutions against it, and still manages to carry on!

8. but their pre-*1949* borders.
How about their pre-1600 borders?

All religious/culture things aside, Israel is the biggest foreign policy disaster of the 20th century.

9. Obama's Bold Move May Be the Answer
My parents were German refugees.
My father held a gun in Palestine.
I have been to both Israel and the Arab world. In Israel, in the early 70’s, the Arabs we met (who knew of our Jewish heritage) universally referred to Jews as “brothers,” (with fingers intertwined). I am embarrassed to say the Israelis would say “Arab” or “Palestinian,” etc. is a way that smacked of “nigger ‘
One of the people we became friends with who we called Dr. Ez told me to look at the map on the doors of the Knesset - which shows greater Israel from the Tiger to the Euphrates. “This is what Israel wants.” I disagreed. Now at 68, I know he was right. Israel will not give anything back. They are prepared to live with the “unpeace” - it is the “cost of doing business.”
I think Obama is taking a bold stroke to force the parties to finally make public their positions. Their answer will fundamentally change the dynamics of Palestine and Israel’s relationship.
