1. Someone remind me how
the war in Afghanistan has served our national interest. I can't come up with a single valid reason behind it.

Iraq, even worse of course. Yet, while we still have troops in both Iraq and Afghanistan we start shooting in Libya. WTF? And yet, according to right wing information sources, we are supposed to believe the President is some sort of liberal socialist? On what planet?

5. Sure, I'll give you a few...
#1 It denied Afghanistan as a safe haven to Osama Bin Laden, which allowed us to get a reasonable shot at him. And even before he was forced to hide.

#2 It dramatically reduced the opium trade, and as a result is almost certain to have saved the lives of tens of thousands of European addicts.

#3 It pressures Al-Qaeda and the Wahabbist radicals. If at some point in the future the Afghans actually decide to elect someone non-corrupt (it almost happened last time), Afghanistan will begin to become a real nation instead of a failed state.

I'm not going to address the Lybia situation other than to say that most Arabs are either torn or openly on the side of the rebels. And we are not taking the lead in this. The French are.

I agree with you, of course, that President Obama is not a socialist. That's just a typical Republican lie. He is a Democrat.

6. I can't agree, at all.
So we are going to invade an entire vast country because of a small group of violent extremists? I'm not buying it. That is no justification for a war.

Afghanistan is the longest war in American history. Any piddly 'accomplishments' are way the fuck out of proportion to the costs. And Osama Bin Laden felt so secure over the border in Pakistan that he completely let his guard down. The U.S. has got to end this dream of world domination. We can't control everything. Besides, we now fight exclusively to preserve corporate interests.

"It dramatically reduced the opium trade" You have got to be kidding! It has dramatically increased the opium trade increasing heroin use in the U.S. to levels we haven't seen in decades.

2. I'm glad support is building to end the wars soon.
I hope more legislators accept the public desire to cut the great waste in our military aggression before trying to cut Medicare or Social Security.

3. The most interesting part to me...
...is that both Democrats and Republicans are hearing from their constituents about the Constitutional issue, and about the wasted money on these wars when we have such problems at home. No doubt it is true that the Republican reps are more eager to press the point because it is a Democratic president -- and particularly because it is President Obama -- but really, who cares, if it means they will try to do the right thing.
