This week, we take advantage of the House’s absence by releasing an interview with Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA10) in lieu of a new summary. Rep. Garamendi is the sponsor of H.R. 613, the Airports, Highways, High-Speed Rail, Trains, and Transit: Make it in America Act, one of the centerpieces of the House Democrats’ Make it in America agenda.

In our interview, Mr. Garamendi offers an impassioned defense of his legislation, highlights the need for government action to create jobs, and scathingly critiques both the wisdom and motives of those who oppose Buy American requirements.

1. This is one of the last honest to God, honest politicians

During the nineties, he was the Insurance Commissioner overseeing the scandalous approach to insurance that the insurance industry brought upon us Californians. He fought a good hard fight against huge odds.

Now he is in the House, and along with Jackie Speers, is one of those that really looks out for the average person here in the USA.

2. You couldn't have said it better
JG is a career public servant, as is his wonderful wife, Patti. I have had the good fortune to work for him at the Department of Insurance as well as working with Patti at another agency. I spent time on his campaign for election to Congress, even tho his district is far from my home. This is the type of person we need in Congress and we need a whole bunch more of them. He cares about his constituents and loves his country deeply. I spoke with him at the CA Democratic Convention in late-April and, of course, the first thing he did was give me guff about wearing an "Honored Guest" badge.

4. I would like to see Garamendi challlenge Dianne Feinstein for her
seat next year. He is a Democrat who could get votes statewide and who would represent California very well in the Senate.

3. Finally, after 30 years of plant closures, worker dislocation and declining wages the political
class is beginning to awaken to the carnage wrought against the working class. Bravo for you Congressman John Garamendi. By the way, when is slave trader Diane Feinstein up for re-election? I have a candidate in mind.
