Renowned Eurosceptic and British Euro MP Nigel Farage says saving
the banks is why politicians are so determined to bail out Greece
and keep it in the Eurozone.

1. Some background about Farage; he is NOT someone to take seriously

He is the leader of UKIP, a party openly to the right of the Tories. This party, like some other people on the British Right, has the same sort of paranoia about the EU that many American right-wingers have about the UN.

He is not saying all this because he's anti-banker, but because he's anti-EU.

There are left-wing Eurosceptics, but Farage and his party are not among them.

Their stated policies include:

Hardline zero-tolerance on crime; 'three strikes and you're out'; putting more people in prison and keeping them there for longer; holding referenda on controversial law-and-order issues rather than leaving them up to 'politically correct' officials


Cutting taxes; flat tax; cutting 'overgenerous welfare'; reducing the size of the state; 'accept there is no alternative to major cuts in government spending'. Classic economic-right viciousness. Farage together with some Tories helped to organize a rally in London 'against debt' and in support of the cuts; I'm glad to say that embarrassingly few people turned up!


Drastically reduce immigration; reserve benefits for British citizens and those who have lived here for at least 5 years; no amnesty for illegal immigrants or failed asylum seekers.

'Restoring Britishness'. Opposing 'multiculturalism and political correctness'· 'Recognise the numerous threats to British identity and culture'· 'Restore British values' 'Require UK schools to teach Britain’s contribution to the world, including British inventions and Britain’s role in fighting slavery and Nazism.'

And (another issue on which they're paranoid) 'Scepticism' (denial) of global warming.
