Typical violent Canadians. Thank God we live in a peaceful, liberty-loving country where sports fans never, ever, riot after a game. :patriot:

1. I find it sad and amusing at the same time
that people get so emotionally invested in a sporting event.
For the record, Yes, I'm a woman, Yes, I'm from Boston area and No, I didn't stay up for the game last night.
My life is no different today than it was before the Bruins won the Stanley Cup.

3. too bad, it was a damn good hockey game.
yes of course some fans are idiots, and no of course sports events are not any more significant than other cultural events. However I'll go out on a limb and claim that a masterfully played hockey game is every bit as beautiful as a masterfully played symphony, and that athletic performance is on the same cultural plane as other performance art.

21. while i dont disagree that any enjoyable cultural experience can be moving,

I have to honestly say that I have never walked out of a Boston Pops performance wanting to beat the crap out of anyone. Even when I had really bad seats.
And for the record, I enjoy a good baseball game (even football) as much as the next person, I guess I just don't understand all the fighting in hockey. If that what you want, choose boxing, or wrestling. Watching people skating around and smacking each other just doesn't do anything for me.
Each to his (or her) own I guess. Thanks for the thoughtful reply!
Peace.

25. There certainly have been violent incidents associated with music performances
One can of course characterize the game as "skating around and smacking each other", and certainly the film Slapshot made that a stereotype for hockey, but that is not the game, that is skating around smacking each other. "I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out" does describe one form of playing the game, but despite the injuries that is not what we got to see this week. But then again Hitler and his nazi gangster buddies were big fans of Wagner, so you really have to be careful about condemning culture based on its fans.

11. I think there is a element out there who use the excuse of a sporting event
to riot. I think they use sports as an excuse to do what they probably feel like doing any old day. Add these people to a captive mob and their impulses rise up. I like to attend sporting events, but I am getting a little introspective in my old age. I look around at the thousands, like me, and wonder, "why the hell are we all here"? And do some get that worked up that burning a car after the game sounds like fun? I, too am from Boston and between watching the Bruins and Beckett pitch a great one, I fell asleep. i guess I won't be rioting.

22. Don't dicount the alchohol factor.

Mayor Menino wouldn't allow the game to be broadcast at the Boston Garden because of the feared reaction to a potential win (or loss, what does it matter, really?). I'm guessing it's due to what happened to that poor fan when the Red Sox beat the Yankees back a few years ago. (I'm not very tech-savvy, I think I posted a link!)

7. 13?
It must be all the Baptists and Mormons pulling down the numbers.

I did not realize the Stanley Cup was going on. I admit I did watch my first NBA game in last couple of years a couple of days ago when Dallas closed out Miami (not all of it - just the last five minutes).

Still have not watched an inning of Baseball this year. Looks like I won't have to worry about the NFL either.

Gives me lots of extra time to read.

20. Clearly you have never been to a hockey game.
This, by the way, happened BEFORE the game started. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNIdtnUQ3qI&playnext=1&list=PL303AA6679EB77915

Sorry for being so obscure. It's a congenital deficiency.
