Cenk Uygur commentary from December 2009 in response to the Mark Mellman memo: "A late-November AP/Ipsos poll found nearly identical numbers in favor of the bill (34%) and opposed (35%), without describing its content. A crucial 12% initially say they oppose the plan, but told pollsters their opposition was based on their belief that it did not go far enough. So what initially appears to be a 12-point margin against reform is actually an even division." Cenk predicted that because of this, Democrats would lose in 2010. Guess what happened?

1. Cenk is missing one thing here:

Liberals routinely turnout to vote in high percentages, much more so than the moderate Democrats or Independents, particularly in off-Presidential elections. so yes, the White House CAN safely ignore liberals, since they continue to turn out in high numbers and vote Democratic regardless of how right wing Democrat politicians go. It is the moderates and Independents that the party must capture. I'm afraid I agree with the Mellman memo on this one.
