:smoke: :smoke:

from Politicususa:

On The Ed Show, Bill Maher accused the Republicans of intentionally tanking the economy so that they can beat Obama in 2012.

" Guest host Michael Eric Dyson asked Maher if he thought anybody in the Republican field could beat Obama. Maher answered, “Absolutely, I do especially with where the economy is going. I mean they’re getting what they want. They want the economy to tank, because that’s their best ticket to beat Obama, and the bill they just forced him to sign is a great start to ensure that we have this double dip recession, and that unemployment stays high, and that nothing is moving in the economy. They’re choking the recession in the crib. That’s just what they want to do, and Obama signed along with it. I just don’t understand this man.

I think Maher meant that Republicans are choking the recovery in the crib, not the recession. His point is a valid one. It is also something that no one talks about in the media. What the media and everyone with a half a brain should be pointing out is that the Republican strategy has always been to keep the economy in the dumpster through the 2012 election..."

2. Surprise Surprise!
Another liberal mad at Obama who says that Obama is letting us down and not doing more but then NEVER EXPLAINS WITH SPECIFICS HOW IT IS THAT OBAMA CAN OVERCOME A FILLUBUSTER IN THE SENATE to get more pure progressive legislation through congress. If the Repubs are out to destroy Obama and they FILLUBUSTER everything he wants, what is it that Obama can do other than looking more "mad?"

The fact that Obama got all this done www.whatthefuckhasobamadonesofar.com with the dysfunctional congress is AMAZING!

We need to vote in more liberal people into Congress!

What's unreal is

80% of Americans wanted a Public Option.
57%...58%.. want taxes raised on the wealthiest
A majority want corporations to pay some taxes

and he still believes he's doing the people's work? He's had the upper hand in more important things than DOMA and fumbled. Obama sux as a leader.

I can't believe anybody would think otherwise and be content with the scraps we're thrown. He could step out of the DC bubble and get some new advisers who are not the people who helped cause the shit we're in now.

I just saw how the stock market plummeted today. They blamed it on Europe on ABC News. Uh huh.....
Who do you think the Repugs are gonna blame it on?

The Dems could have blamed it on the GOP.... but not after just folding on the Debt ceiling.

34. Unreal?!
I am deeply offended by your not-so-subtle derogation of those of us who decry Obama's overall performance as POTUS. Obama's appointment of Arne Duncan as SecEd, ALONE, put a huge question mark in my mind about his integrity. Then, his casual dismissal of teachers as 'resistant to change' provided an accurate, if disheartening, picture of his attitude towards a profession that is VENERATED in nations that excel at educating their citizenry. As a chronically unemployed teacher, I don't need Obama's paternalistic condescension, I need a JOB!

Now, a growing number of us are appalled at Obama's glib performance in the debt ceiling theatrics. You can call our concerns bullshit until the cows come home; you won't change the fact that our concerns have merit.

You will, however, come across as a crass, inflexible Obama sycophant, trotting out *The Hallowed List* whenever anyone disses your guy.

Beware ye idols, with their feet of clay...

raised the debt ceiling by ignoring it, it's not law, or invoking emergency powers.

the question was - would it be constitutional for Obama to raise the debt limit on his own? Obama's lawyers advised against it as did many other constitutional law attorneys...you make it seem like a clear cut case, it's not.

26. Bill Maher
I think you need to understand that democrats need to develop educaitonal anchor points in their states. Economies are anchor points. Democrats need to learn chemistry, engineering, statistics, math with radicals, geometry and bring the language with math radicals into both the TV Production conversations as well as the hall ways of our college campuses. The righteous religious bombastci bagger pastors need to be told explicitly to shut up. The problem has to be moved to a state recognition of why my state is a good candidate for this different change variation of job.

fabricated. I guess that was wrong.

It is clear cut. Obama could have done and dealt with the legality later. So what. As it is, he's a one term president, so he might as well go out swinging and have a chance to be reelected.

And I'm with Justicia on this: http://verdict.justia.com/2011/07/11/the-debt-ceiling-law-is-unconstitutional/

39. Thanks for the limk Dennis. Here's more and wish folks could see this is GOP agenda-hate Obama
FROM STEVE BENEN'S SITE AT WASHINGTON MONTHLY.COM:

"... he got a food safety bill, passage of the START treaty, a stimulus package, repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, and a 9/11 first responders bill. Maybe it would have been worth risking all that over inclusion of a debt ceiling increase, but that’s hardly an open-and-shut case.

What’s more, Obama also won passage during his first two years of a stimulus bill, a landmark healthcare bill that Democrats had been trying to pass for the better part of a century, a financial reform bill, and much needed reform of student loans. And more: a firm end to the Bush torture regime, the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, a hate crimes bill, a successful rescue of the American car industry, and resuscitation of the NLRB. Oh, and he killed Osama bin Laden too.

I might also throw in new regulation of the credit card industry, new regulation of the tobacco industry, a national service bill, expanded stem-cell research, the most sweeping land-protection act in 15 years, and the confirmation of two Supreme Court justices.
Snip

But as Kevin concluded, “n two years Obama has done more to enact a liberal agenda than George Bush did for the conservative agenda in eight. That’s not bad, folks. All things considered, I’d say Obama is the most effective politician of the Obama era. And the Bush era too.”

I’d go just a little further and say Obama is the most effective politician since Reagan, and depending on the day, perhaps even the most effective politician since LBJ.

16. Curious thing about that Mormon comment.
Bill seems to think Romney's Mormonism won't go well with Evangelicals. I disagree. DU'ers have said the equivalent at different times that any conservative could drown a puppy on live TV and right-wingers would still prefer him over Obama. I don't know if many conservatives--especially conservative Catholics--know the nature of Mormonism; that God has an unlimited number of spiritual wives; that he sent one to be born as Mary and impregnated him herself in a physical act; that God is only the god of this planet and other planets have their own gods equal to him or even greater and that humans can aspire to be gods themselves after death and rule over their own planets. I feel that as long as a candidate parrots the mantra of pro-guns, stop the gay agenda, no taxes, no big government, no abortion, kick out Mexicans (and while you're at it, make each one take a black person under each arm), free markets, and family values, you'll get their vote no matter who or what you are. It'll be strictly ABO (Anyone But Obama).

Especially if Rick Perry throws his hat in the ring. He won't have any of this polite "don't criticize each other, only Obama" like in the debates. Perry'll go for his primary opponents' throats without any niceties and he'll do it in a scorched earth manner that won't leave anything for the buzzards. He'd take Mitt Romney down first.

61. Bill's point was that,
Perry, in a tough primary fight, will tell the evangelical rank and file what Mormon dogma actually means.

You're right that conservatives don't know about Mormonism. They don't know 'yet'. They are about to find out.

Bill is saying that once conservatives learn more about the Mormon Church the shit will hit the fan and Romney will drop like a rock. I agree with him 100%.

We see the intolerance of the Christian right on display every day.

McConnell has said he wanted to see Obama a one term president since Obama was elected - this is not news.

What is news is that the Democrats are playing dumb and acting like they didn't know this. The Democrats are doing what helps them get financed. If their financial benefactors win, they win and anyone who can't see this or acts surprised that this is so is blind as a bat.

22. Republicans introduce “Kill the economy” plan
Congressional Republicans unveiled a plan on Monday that they said would hurt the nation’s economy, benefit the wealthy at the expense of the middle class and add billions to the national debt.

The move is a continuation of Republican policies during the Bush administration and part of a plan they hope will lead to rising voter dissatisfaction and Republican gains at the ballot box.

64. The "double dip" Meme
There are those who would profit off a "double dip" who have been writing and speaking this meme online and in corporate media for some time. I don't believe it, but the damn greedy assholes keep trying. I don't trust Mahr as far as I can throw him. He is right minorities need to stop the racism that keeps them from showing whites anger, we agree on that one. He throws out nuggets of truth at times which is why I watch him, but only cautiously.
