7. But what replaces the empire -

Brzezinski argues in the GRAND CHESSBOARD that the US is the last empire a global oligarchal system replaces it. Brzezinski has greatly influenced presidents from Reagan through Obama.

My preference would be to progress to local communities/local economies - but there are no signs that it's going that way....

However, Galtung added that the decline of the US Empire does not imply a fall and decline of the US republic and that the "relief from the burden of Empire control and maintenance...could lead to a blossoming of the US Republic."
