1. The problem, gentlemen, is that you are asking for things that CAN NOT PASS. |

3. The repukes will block these demands, and the tens of thousands |
|
jobs that could be created wouldn't.
The President knows it, and he is not willing to have to wait 14 months, or more to see these jobs benefit the tens of thousands unemployed, and the same goes for the unemployment benefits extensions.
IOW, he could let the repukes block them, let the unemployed stay unemployed, or loose their benefits if they can't get jobs, and go campaigning all over the country accusing the repukes of blocking these demands, and let all these people suffer more, 14 to 18 months longer, but he does NOT want them to be victims of these political-circus obstructions.
The President wants them to find jobs ASAP, because they desperately need them ASAP.
That's how I see it.

According to the gentlemen the President should be educating the American people that under the circumstances we should be investing in our infrastructure.
He should have told us these investments will pay dividends now and in the future. By educating the American people on the nature of "stimulus" the president would be undermining the GOP position.
Spitzer and the other guy are flabbergasted by Obama's unwillingness to go all the way with a sound argument for real stimulus when interest rates are so low.
And THIS is the single best commentary I have seen on the President's speech.
First and foremost the President should have UNDERMINED the Republican position that stimulus doesn't work. And he should have undermined the Republican position that deficit is the cause of the downturn.
This would have forced the Republicans toward his position.
