having and studying the history of the real "wild west", I have always known that. I am amazed everyone else does not. The "wild west" was a creation of pulp novelists like Ned Buntline and Hollywood.

2. I've heard a much different argument. |

I've heard in one documentary that the NRA "hardliners" of the 60s and 70s being mostly Southern whites that opposed gun control due to their concerns about the growing Civil Rights movement and propaganda about black crime and a possible black take over of the U.S.

When I was in the Scouts in NC in the mid/late 60's, the NRA was all about gun safety and care.... and like he said, marksmanship. I lost interest in all that in high school and college in the 70's. But now you can clearly see the NRA is a political shill group for the GOP. Remember the senile Charlton Heston? I once got a phone call from the NRA franticly telling me how Hillary Clinton had advocated giving guns to all illegal immigrants! I asked to hear a tape of her alleged Senate floor speech (I mean they had a tape of the NRA prez accusing her of such things), which quickly ended the phone call.
Anyway, in the late 60's as I drifted away from the outdoors and guns, there was real tension about blacks and hippies and my father, for the 1st time, pulled out his father's Mouser and kept it in his bed side drawer. :eyes: We lived in the dreaded Country Club district! :eyes: He was plain out scared some black hippie was gonna come steal the silver. :eyes: :eyes:
