2. Nice theory, but how many people still watch TV like that?

That's how most people watched TV up until, I'd say, about 1995, give or take 5 years, but I think most people have far too many other distractions now (Computer/internet, DVDs, Video games, etc.).

Probably the only ones still vegging out in front of the tube, these days, are Stoners (people who are getting high and watching TV {been there, done that}) and rural "Red State" voters.

I could be wrong, but I haven't sat down and "vegged out" in front of the TV since about 1994.
