The forum formerly known as the Video Forum is now called the POLITICAL VIDEOS forum
Despite the announcement pinned at the top of the page, it is apparent that many people are still unaware that this forum is for POLITICAL videos.

We have changed the name to "POLITICAL VIDEOS" to make clear the purpose of this forum and the type of videos that we wish to see posted here. We hope that this will cut down on the amount of off-topic stuff that gets posted here.

If this forum were to become a dumping ground for everything, then there will be no point in having it at all. We might as well just put up a link to YouTube and tell everyone to go there.

Thank you for your understanding.

13. Tell it, sister.
For instance, reflecting on how times have changed regarding social issues like Women's Rights by viewing old TV commercials that are obviously skewered towards a man's POV might be considered political.

Perhaps?

15. If you want to post a video reflecting on changing social and gender roles...
...in the context of advertising, you are of course welcome to do so. I don't think anyone would disagree that that is a relevant topic.

But just posting an old ad for Campbell's soup... Sorry, that doesn't cut it.

14. Here's what is says in the pinned thread at the top of this forum:
3. VIDEO CONTENT
This is a political website so we expect the videos to have some political content or relevance to current news stories. Be aware that all DU rules -- including rules regarding which topics must be posted in which forums -- are applicable to the DU Political Videos forum. (For more information, see the section titled "Where to post various discussion topics" on our detailed rules page.)

I think most members of this website are perfectly capable of figuring out the approximate boundaries that include "some political content or relevance to current news stories." These are precisely the same boundaries that demarcate what is permitted in our General Discussion forum and in our Latest Breaking News forum, and most people seem to be able to figure it out in those forums without too much difficulty. With this in mind, I do not think it is necessary for me to provide a long laundry list of what's permitted and what isn't.

I posted contains some political content

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x6315

Don't you agree? :)

I did leave out one word on the video description "political"

"Alan Shore" played by James Spader, delivering a five minute long "political" closing argument, In defense of a woman who wouldn't pay her Income taxes"

Can you and edit and unlock the post please, or should I repost the video

Thanks ... Tim

17. I think something needs to be made clear.
Edited on Mon Nov-20-06 06:36 PM by Skinner
Simply putting the word "political" in the description is unhelpful. I strongly suspect that if we just let people add the word "political" to their descriptions, then it's only a matter of time before we don't have any standards for this forum.

Don't tell me that it is a "political closing argument." Tell us specifically what he says that makes it relevant.

"James Spader's character delivers a political closing argumet" -- No.
"James Spader's character delivers a closing argument in defense of a woman who wouldn't pay her taxes" -- No.
"James Spader's character delivers an impassioned closing argument condemning Bush Administration attacks om our civil liberties" -- YES!

The moderators don't have the time to watch everything in this forum, and decide whether something meets the standards of this forum. It would be nice if they didn't have to, but apparently they do. When we see a music video or TV show, our assumption is that it is not relevant -- because already people have posted plenty of stuff here that is not relevant.

So, please, just write one sentence explaining what is in the video that makes it relevant. That will make things easy for all of us.

And yes... now that I have spent five minutes watching it, I would agree that James Spader's speech is relevant. I have unlocked.

21. Would it be possible to have a "non-political" video forum for all the left over cool stuff?
I think the idea is fantastic and would look forward to going to see choices of videos by DU folk that maybe have an edge in their humor but may not be necessarily "political."

25. My preference is that non-political stuff get posted in the Lounge.
Or in the Sports or Entertainment forums.

The media forum is supposed to focus on issues relating to the media.
