13. Good stuff, loved the Kucinich part. |
|
The Biden/Dodd thing was interesting too. I do wonder how much support either of them would get if the other weren't there. They are probably drawing from a very common supporter pool

15. Me too! Mike Gravel was used as a poor joke. |
|
Mike Gravel should be respected for what he's done in the past and his honest straight-forward speaking today. To play him as insane is over the top (maybe even mean). He may be feisty but it's so refreshing to hear him speak. He gets your attention and uses humor to make a point.

24. Lighten Up About The Gravel Joke |
|
I will probably vote for Gravel in the primary - I encourage all Democrats in Florida and Michigan to do the same. However, we must admit that his public image is not one of moderation and credibility. That's a shame, but I think this skit merely reflects rather than promotes that idea.

26. His "public image" is created by SNL & other media. To me he is credible and wise |
|
(with the possible exceptions of some issues - where I disagree - but I don't see insanity) I see it in Ron Paul - who, for all the ignoring - is never portrayed in a straight jacket - because - duh - not a Democrat. Lighen up? It wasn't funny by any measure - SNL hasn't been funny since the 70s.

27. Just because he's attacking your candidate, MSM can call him insane? |
|
To me he has all the agenda that I need in a candidate: a true liberal progressive that is also experienced enough - and when he was in power he voted the way he talks now. Solid reason AND integrity.

25. Edwards as a hobo - ha-ha-ha! Funniest joke of all! Sooo good! |
|
Edited on Sun Nov-04-07 03:59 PM by The Count
I think his operatives that love this missed that point!"The little poor boy" disguise - is ignored by all the admiration society happy that other candidates got attacked. personally I find the whole thing unfunny like all SNL in the past 20 years (except maybe the Gore show). It's hypocritical to pretend otherwise.

I like Edwards and I got the hobo costume - considered it quite apropos. OF course, I didn't see the skit as unfairly attacking any one candidate, merely holding up a mirror to many broadly held views of the candidates.
I was actually an Edwards supporter, but I'm in Florida and he refuses to campaign here, so Gravel will probably get my vote now.

29. Don't like trashy humor |
|
That show has been getting away with racism toward blacks, hispanics, and poor whites for years now. Last night's Richardson crack where he's treated like a gopher was one of the most offensive so far. It's amazing this show is still on the air, I don't find bigoted satire funny. I do believe Lorne whathisname must be a republican.

I liked Ana Gastayer's Hillary better, she would have played her more "uptight". Hammond's always a great Bill. I was lucky to catch him at NYC's Caroline's in the late 90's working on his Bill Clinton after a midnight show. He was testing audience reaction before he took it *live, from New York* ! What a treat. And yes, he was playing the lethario and complaing about his wife. Pure SNL schtick.
Will Forte has been playing Edwards since the 2004 campaign. Not sure I got the "bum" get up? Might have done better doing his Bush "fake cowboy" ?
Kuch making out with his hot wife, Richardson fell flat, as did Biden and Dodd. Gravel was funny.
Hopefully, in the future, SNL will take on more right wingnuts, they seem fixated on Hillary. I think Lorne Michaels is good friends with Rudy and the Republicans, so maybe not.

38. Only Way They Could Show It |
|
I don't think they intended it as a dig or something mean, but they wanted to show him as representing poverty - so they used an old stereotype. It speaks to lack of creativity rather than any cruelty in my opinion.
