5. His point is well taken, and I'm glad he took it to them
He may have been more effective had he focused on coward Bush
and coward Cheney, rather than personally attacking the
GOP dickhead on the panel.

That said, not everyone who doesn't serve in the
military is a coward.
I didn't want to be drafted in the 70s because I
didn't want to be cannon fodder for Henry
Kissinger's negotiating position.
After that, I deliberately spent years as
a paramedic, with the idea that I
could challenge myself in situations as
close to combat as civilian life allows.

I know other medics who said the same thing.

Although I never was shot at, I went into situations with
a flak jacket expecting that it could happen.
And, I know what it feels like to zip my best friend into
a body bag.

6. I don't know how people can stand to watch that shite.
People screaming over one another and the host screaming the most, and talking over the guests he dislikes. It's disgusting. And I don't know that Lawrence O'Donnell scored any points particularly. What a waste of time shows like that are.

7. .
It was a mess. I thought that I'm just not used to these kind of shows but I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds it hard to appreciate something like this.

I understand the point O'Donnel was making and I think he's right but he could have made his case in another way without sounding too aggressive in order to reach more people.
It should have been in a more calm manner like:
If there is a draft, then it could be my kid or your kid being sent to war. In that case, this Administration would have had a way harder job to persuade the public. The case has to be crystal clear. No one wants to send their children into a questionable war. It's hard enough even if there is a specific threat. But a war based on lies or at best faulty intelligence? No way.
People would ask more questions, there would be more obstacles. They would tell the President to do his homework first before he sends their kids to war. If my kid gets sent to war, I want to know for what reason and that reason better be true and not a lie.

8. You can see O'Donnell, & more reasoned discourse, on PBS' McLaughlin Group.
It was sad to see him like this on this Scarborough program. I have to conclude he was expressly told to pump it up. It's sad to think that he complied.

12. Why?
They just get shouted over. They don't persuade anybody who doesn't want to be persuaded. Do you suppose that there are thoughtful people looking for informative discussion amongst experts who watch these shows? All I think that happens is that the Scarborough fans get off on his smackdown techniques and it feeds their aggression. Scarborough knows his audience. He let the Republican strategist talk and talk and talk, and he didn't interrupt. O'Donnell says a few sentences and Scarborough interrupts to chant "Larry...Larry...Larry..." to drown out the rest of the point that O'Donnell was attempting to make.

You're right to call it muck, but I don't think there's any advantage gained by going on a show that is designed to make fools of people they don't like. O'Donnell couldn't be effective here, and wasn't. I think he lowered himself.

10. Joe "Dead Intern" was out of bounds. I thought that "some of them
are my best friends," went out in the 1960s.

11. So Joe considers himself an 'elite'. How nice. And that
Terry Holt is downright sickening every time I see him. Why are the rethugs now getting a pass for supposedly supporting the meet-up between Iraq and Syria/Iran? Weren't they our enemies a few weeks ago?
He's a total apologist for this corrupt and failed admin. If dimson wanted to hire Bozo the Clown for SecDef, I think Holt would be praising that decision to the heavens.

13. In the GAME! The French and Germans were never in the GAME!
Edited on Tue Nov-21-06 10:11 AM by IndyOp
We are in the GAME! Iran and Syria share borders with Iraq so they are in the GAME!

In the GAME!

I have a GAME! for you Terry -- all of you militaristic f*s who refer to war as a GAME!...

Let's see if you can think of a GAME! that you could play alone with THIS:

In the GAME! Get in the GAME! GAME!

Kids love games -- here are Iraqi children enjoying the GAME!

O, WHAT FUN! A GAME!

:grr: :grr: :grr:

Hey, Terry -- Get your ass to Iraq and spend a few weeks tending to injured children in a hospital. May the Lord have mercy on your soul for referring to war as a "game".

14. "Unless you want to surrender, you can't bring the French in."
STFU, Terry Holt. This is too serious a matter to be sniping at people who knew how wrong you were to go into Iraq.

Playground mentality rules the GOP.

16. Their reactions to that simple fact were so very telling.
Edited on Wed Nov-22-06 05:37 PM by Marr
It's simply unacceptable to mouth that sort of obvious truth.

Scarborough and Holt immediately tried to hide behind the flag, suggesting that O'Donnell was somehow insulting the military.

The Democratic strategist's only response was that if O'Donnell's views were widely held, it would make it harder for alot of rich *DEMOCRATIC* chickenhawks to run for office. How inspiring.

So disgusting- they don't even see how classist they are.
