Either one is far more populist than the corporate Democrats running.

Kucinich is my #1 as far as his politics and policy, but if I realistically want to see my own values represented, I'll vote for John.

10. Old Cynic? Bah
I have seen your posts, and the memory of the photos of the boots you posted haunts me to this day.

You are not a cynic -- you just feel what we all do and that is moral outrage, tempered by DLC and blue dog do-nothingness and we have a hard time believing that anyone can pull us out of this put.

God willing, someone will and soon. I believe that someone to be JRE. YMMV but hope is not lost, dear friend. This country is positively fed up with the neo-con Shock Doctrine game.

11. Funny you should mention Shock Doctrine...
I'm just finishing Naomi Klein's book which has been a real eye-opener. The enormity of what we're faced with is daunting, to say the least. I'm afraid we need a complete overhaul.

Thank you for the kind words re my photographs. If you haven't yet, maybe you would like to check out my photos from the the UFPJ protest in San Francisco 10/27. They are here: http://www.northernvisions.smugmug.com/gallery/3794356#218902413

37. I don't know whether Edwards has read the book,
but he is the only candidate who deals with the economic issues Naomi Klein discusses in that book.

It is not just a matter of which candidate you like. Even those who may not "like" Edwards need to ask themselves: "Which candidate will effectively deal with the economic decline of the middle and working classes in America?"

I believe that John Edwards and Kucinich are the only candidates who see the economic decline. They are the only candidates who are addressing that issue. I also believe that, of the two, Edwards is the more electable, and that his policy proposals are the most realistic and the most likely to be adopted.

In addition, Edwards' experience speaking to juries in courtrooms prepared him to talk to us ordinary people with both compassion and persuasiveness. Obama is also a very inspiring speaker, but Obama lacks something that a trial lawyer has to learn -- to speak with passion and emotion, but also to present the facts so as to tell the story that is relevant to the issues. I like Obama very much. I would vote for him in an instant. But he can be swept away by his feelings and the sound of his own rhetoric. He gets a little lost in the feeling of giving a speech and ends up speaking in vague, but very moving, generalities.

I think Edwards is more ready to serve as president than Obama. Edwards' speeches are more focused. I believe that the clarity and focus of Edwards' speeches reflect the clarity of his thought. They also reflect a character that is determined and goal oriented. Edwards has a clear concept of why he wants to be president, who he wants to serve as president and how he will serve them. Edwards will be one of our greatest presidents ever.

Most important, Edwards will come down hard on the corruption in D.C. There will be not paid for nights in the Lincoln bedroom with Edwards as president. Hillary Clinton will not. If Hillary is elected, it will be more of the same corruption.

47. JD, love your posts. Always well thought out and well articulated
This really speaks to it. I have been sporting my Edwards '08 sticker on my car since July and a lot of people have asked me about it. Dems who don't have a candidate yet (who all got an email of this video today) as well as (R)s who don't "get" why I would want a trial lawyer in the top spot.

To the latter, I have been saying "who better???". I mean if you want someone to stand in your corner and articulate the points that will get the gist across clearly and succintly, who BETTER than a successful trial lawyer.

I am going to add your schtick to my play book. Thanks for sharing!

29. Outstanding!!!!
I think this is by far the strongest speech I've ever heard Edwards give. My only wish for everyone who views this is that they listen with their hearts. Don't let the politics of cynicism, and mistrust that have been grown over the last few years because of Bush and his cabal make you dismiss his words.

This is an outstanding speech. One spoken from Edward's heart.

"In the Name of Love" -- it is about Martin Luther King, Jr.

Powerful, fighter, believer, moral commitment to the common man - quite an ending.

36. Are we not ready to hear this from someone? Long overdue.
Ieard him at the Jefferson Jackson dinner in my state months ago and loved the speech but others weren't happy especially men, who saw his as too "pretty" to "nice" to be in that tough job. But he was holding back, maybe it was because of "handlers" or maybe he was hedging his bets, whatever. But something, that seed that I saw, something has shifted in him and he's going for broke. If he keeps this up, I say he has a real chance to win.

40. The more I see and hear this man
the more convinced I am that we need him in the White House. We desperately need someone who speaks "truth to power" and John has been doing that for years. Yes, I know he's made mistakes..a big one, in the case of the Iraq vote...but unlike the current resident, he can understand when he's made a mistake, and more important, admit it. I hope Iowans respond. Although Iowa isn't as important as it once was, it still is important in the primaries. A win there would give a big boost to the Edwards candidacy.

49. I Have Been Trying Not To Comment Here Lately, But I Just CAN'T Help
saying how very much this man has impressed me! Say what you will, and I KNOW many here who will stop at NOTHING to put him down, but I don't know what it is that they don't get!!

By now, I know many of the names by heart, and from what I've seen MOST of them support Hillary Clinton, and of course we all have a choice. Regardless of mistakes made in the past, and I don't think there's ANYONE here who doesn't wish they could get a "do over" on some BIG mistake they've made in their life! What IS important is that you REALIZE and admit that you did it!

I also know that the D.C. Elites DO NOT want this man in the WH and I suspect the reason is evident. He HAS been pushing buttons lately but despite those who say it's out of desperation, I will do what I can to help get him elected. I just ordered lots of stuff to advertise my support for him and can't wait to receive it! We have some very good people running, and MANY of them ARE NOT getting credit and that's just not what Democracy is about, but for me maybe THIS MAN can make America BELIEVE that "we the people" count!

Go, Johnny, Go!

70. Not this one but
I saw another speech, months ago, by Edwards....it was one where all the candidates spoke (even Clark tho' he wasn't declared). That speech did make me cry.

Edwards listed this horrible thing and that horrible thing going on right now and after each horror he would state "it doesn't have to be that way". It had been that way seemingly so long that I had almost forgotten it doesn't have to be that way.

That speech really spoke to my heart. This one was very powerful and moving but that one was the one that really highlighted to me what dark days we've been living in.

71. Pelosi sponsorship?
Pelosi's sponsorship is worries me. He may have great values, but if he bends to the puppets his ideas are lost. He surly knows the problems, as we all do, but does understand the solutions? He points to some big lobbyist and opponents, but simply being "better than this" doesn't get the job done. How is he going to reorganize the system? Instead of attacking why not answer these questions and send the answers to him. The smear teams, i.e. lobbyists, corporate fundies etc., will be all over him, trying to discredit him.
