British newspapers have reported the British Royal Navy is no longer capable of fighting a war.

They say a leaked document has revealed that the navy has become degenerated, with its fighting capability eroded because of years of under-funding and cutbacks.

A top-level ministry of defence document, leaked to the papers, said the Royal Navy would be challenged to mount a medium-scale operation against a technologically capable adversary.

A medium-scale operation was described as being similar to the naval involvement in the Iraq War.
