13. I understand if Obama is surging and all, even nationally,

but I like to think that Edwards' has surged nationally too, up from 12% from a few months ago to 20 or so? Anyone with knowledge on this? He is definitely strong in debates and on the stump. I guess it's understandable that the focus of this Democratic nomination is on the 1st possible female, or part African-American candidate running for president, but his message and what he plans to do is as strong or stronger than their best stances.

23. How can it be true that 200 000 veterans are sleeping under bridges?

I had a look at the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans website.

It says this:
Although accurate numbers are impossible to come by -- no one keeps national records on homeless veterans -- the VA estimates that nearly 200,000 veterans are homeless on any given night.

But the definition of "homeless" includes people staying in shelters and institutions.

So it does not mean that they are all sleeping under bridges and on grates

John Edwards does not advance the cause of homeless vets by misrepresenting their situation.

The reality of the situation is bad enough. There is no need to exaggerate.

ALMOST as good as living in the Superdome. As Barbara Bush might say, is it "working out well" for the veterans?

Of all the things to criticize for - you criticize Edwards for "overstating" the literal sleeping arrangements of the actual homeless?

31. The situation for younger veterans is far worse than is ever acknowledged.

I work for a veterans' education program and the stats that Edwards uses are accurate. What you don't read about is how quickly young vets are becoming homeless. Viet Nam vets are a huge percentage of the total number of homeless in America. But they didn't become homeless overnight. For most it was a long, slow downward slide into homelessness. These young vets are becoming homeless within a year of separating from the military. They go from home to sleeping on friends' couches. They technically aren't even counted amoung the homeless, but they will be when they run out of friends and family to stay with. They also have been met with nothing but red tape from the VA. It is shameful and heartbreaking. We are just starting to see the effects of their service on a generation of service men and women. The reality is far worse, I believe.

I seriously suggest you do some SERIOUS research before making these kinds of statements about vets, and about homeless people!

The men's shelter in our city is for one night at a time. Everyone has to be out - with all of their belongings - by 8:00 am and can't return until 5:00. They have no where to spend the day. How can anyone look for a job in a situation like this?
