1. This particular dead horse has already been beaten severely... |

I think he is irrelevant regardless of his stance on evolution.

7. I can remember at least three flame wars on this in the past month... |

There is a huge disconnect between those who want to call others idiots and those who understand the need for many human beings to have a mythical being in their lives.
In watching and listening to that particular video for the umpteenth time, I still feel Paul is trying hard not to piss anyone off. There's a lot of mixed messages in what he said, I think he's trying to straddle a very pointy fence... ouch!
All that said, how much damage has been done in the world because some people want to pick on other people's religion? Is it really worth it? I don't think so... see my sig-line.

In Medieval times there was a joining of science and religion, and beliefs were held up against what science knew at the time. It was a beautiful arrangement, imho, but when it got to hot for those who wanted to use religion as a means to control people, the kibosh was put on the whole deal. The bastardized version of Christianity most prevalent today is a scary behemoth. Arguing against it only serves to make the beast stronger. I'm not sure what the answer is, but the constant talk of how stupid Christians are that goes on around here is not helping at all.
Edited to say: Check out my sig-line:)
